The Tiki Barber – 14 July 2022
This small Portland Tiki bar has quickly become in my opinion one of the best in the country. Happy to know that I have family nearby so if I'm ever in town I have somewhere to go hang out. I was in the Pacific Northwest helping my wife's cousin build out his basement tiki bar and we visited his mom who lives in Portland, they took me to Hale Pele... little did I know I would be gifted a 10-year Hale Pele anniversary mug 3 months later

Was looking forward to visiting Hale Pele for at least 5 years before I ended up in Portland for a conference. Loved the bridge entrance and the overall decor. Met a friendly couple at the bar and the vibe was great. Had 3 drinks that were all very good. My favorite was the Polestar, the Duke was my second favorite (lemony but balanced), the Signal Fire was my least favorite (too creamy for me, but does come on fire).
Definitely a must see Tiki bar nationally. Can't wait to go back.
Trader Tom – 25 Aug 2012
I lived in Portland from 2011 to 2015 while my wife was working for LAIKA animation on The Boxtrolls project. I went to Hale Pele at least once or twice a month for a few years, starting the month it opened in 2012 and until I moved back to Los Angeles in 2015. My last visit was probably June 1st, 2015. I was about halfway through both my water bearer (cocktail list) and fire drinker (rum list) but never completed either one. Sadly, I do that at every bar that has a customer incentive drink list. I can never focus. Took me forever to pick a major in college too. I guess some people never learn! Hale Pele's unique round-the-world presentation of their rums taught me a lot and introduced me to a wider range than I might have otherwise explored from purchases at liquor stores. I heartily recommend a trip there!
