I had an interest in tiki early on, but it was on it's way out as I became an adult. I remember looking for tiki mugs when I went to Hawaii in the 70s but not finding any. When my husband built me a tiki bar, I got a renewed interest and began collecting. I now know why I didn't find any tiki mugs when I visited.

My parents lived in Hawaii in the late '50s, when my dad was stationed in the army there. All the slideshows, photos and talks of Hawaii got my tiki juices flowing! I started my serious mug collecting about 10 years ago and have a home bar, The Hula Hideaway.
Been loving tiki for almost 60 years, from our decorated basement when I was a kid, and my parents would bring home those itty bitty plastic monkeys and swizzles for us, to my first visit to the ETR and a kid in the early 70's, to our own "basement paradise" now: The Kukui Lagoon (my art studio by day, our tiki lounge by night). I'm a full time artist, focused on painting ocean, aboriginal style, and tropical art on reclaimed monkeypod bowls and wall art surfboards. Proud to say that my monkeypod bowls and hand-dyed silks were sold in the Mai Kai gift shop. So many art projects, too, and basically, if it sits still long enough, I'll paint it.
