This is a mug shaped like a barrel and featuring a hillbilly as the handle. Twin Winton's Hillbilly line came out in 1947 and it was such a success that Twin Winton had to move to a larger plant in Pasadena, CA. The line featured hand-painted figures of Ozark Mountain boys along with a wood-grain effect under glaze. It was inspired by Paul Webb's cartoon series. When the line first came out it was hand painted, but the demand quickly caused a re-design. The new way was to apply brown paint into the detail areas, wipe off the excess, then handpaint the hillbilly figures and few other small areas. The hillbilly line was huge. It included lamps, ashtrays, salt/pepper shakers, cookie jars, etc.
