Tiki Bars
Kon Tiki Apartments - Riverside
Riverside, California, United States (Closed)
Built in 1961.
This development consisted of two 2-story buildings with a courtyard and pool in-between. 16 units total (1783-1797 Loma Vista St., Riverside, CA 92507).
A one-bedroom here on opening went for $85 a month.
Today, the structures remain with their stone wall front facades, but the pool has been filled in and the cool mid century fence with alternating colored rectangles has been replaced with a generic black fence.
The tiki in front is long gone and the name has undergone a few changes as well.
Its current name and commercial status remains unclear as of 2025 but all signs of tiki decor appear to have been removed.
Tiki - Old Tappan
Old Tappan, New Jersey, United States (Closed)
This location had a long history. It was originally called Badini's from 1926-1946. From 1946-1965 it was The Pine Grove Inn.
Tiki was originally opened in this location in 1965 by Bob Gaudio, part of the famous singing group “The Four Seasons”. That explains the name of the drinks on the first portion of the menu entitled "The Golden Hits that built the Tiki!"
This location was only open a few years and then closed to be re-opened as Oriental Luau in the late 1960s or early 70s. The Oriental Luau kept a full menu of tiki drinks as well. It lasted into the 1990s.
Tiki Thai
Reston, Virginia, United States
Opened December 21st, 2020 by Beverage Director and General Manager Jeremy Ross, along with co-owners Porntipa “Pat” Pattanamekar and Parasak “Sing” Chokesatean.
As you would expect from the name, this is not a traditional tiki bar/restaurant. The space is open and modern, with light oak woodwork, slate floors, and simple tropical flower print wallpaper. There are repeated tiki face panels both on the standing pillars and on metal panel dividers. However, bright track lighting and open windows in front leave no shadows to speak of.
That said, Ross's creations honor the tiki and craft cocktail culture -- with fresh ingredients and fine rums -- albeit with some sometimes surprising Thai-inspired flavor combinations.
Drinks are served in branded tiki mugs supplied by Munktiki Imports among others.
Tiki Apartments
Covina, California, United States (Closed)
Built in 1963, this apartment complex features two A-frames in front and an A-frame pool house in back. Original name unknown...but labeled "Tiki Apartments" on blueprints.
Features 14 units and 2 stories.
Oceanic Arts was consulted about decor for this location, so it's quite possible it once had tikis or other decor on grounds.
As of 2022, this location was closed, but not demolished, possibly awaiting refurbishment or re-development.
Tarantula Tiki Lounge
Fort Worth, Texas, United States
Opened in June 2020.
This is the first tiki bar in Fort Worth since Ren Clark's Polynesian Village closed in 1969.
Co-owned by Autumn Brackeen, who’s also co-owned The Boiled Owl on Magnolia Avenue since 2012. She and fellow co-owner Jason Alford worked together to bring forth this concept which combines classic tiki with nautical and a touch of the macabre.
Arnold's Beach Bar
Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
Opened in 1992, Arnold's is a good old-fashioned Honolulu Tiki dive bar.
This hidden spot off Saratoga Road was once a horse stable, but today Arnold’s is lined wall-to-wall with lauhala, decked in vintage photographs of hapa-haole hula girls and protected by tiki totems everywhere you turn.
You’ll also find locally made rum and drafts. Their mai-tais are touted as being pretty good and inexpensive.
Open daily. Live music 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. All day $5 cocktails.
Suffering Bastard
Sanford, Florida, United States
Opened in Spring 2019.
They describe themselves on their Facebook page as "An intimate Tiki experience located inside Tuffy's Bottle Shop & Lounge."
Typhoon Tommy has crafted pieces throughout the space. Handmade or hand-painted weapons hang on the walls, which are covered in different textiles and woods.
It has a max capacity of about 30 people and requires a reservation unless you’re extremely lucky with party sizes of 6 or less. If you have larger parties they do accommodate but require you to rent out the entire bar.
*NOTE: On April 10th, 2025, the bar made an announcement that they will be packing their bags and moving to Orlando in 2026! So enjoy this location while you still can...
Tiki Tango
Atlanta, Georgia, United States (Closed)
Tiki Tango opened in January 2019.
Tiki Tango was a 3-level tiki lounge in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. Each level had a distinct island vibe and mood (Flamingo Room, Tiger's Den, and Tango Room). Previously known as The Lava Lounge, new owner Scott McCray employed tiki interior designer and artist Frank Simotics — better known as The Tiki Rancher — to assist with the bar’s tropical transformation.
Tiki Tango announced its closure for Sunday, June 19th, 2022 due to the sale of the block for another high-rise apartment building in midtown.
Tiki Tap House
Centralia, Washington, United States
Tiki Tap House was opened by Cindy and Jordan Peabody in Centralia, Washington in July 2013. It is an "island inspired" pizza restaurant -- not a tiki bar. There's only beer and wine available, so no tiki cocktails. The decor is spare, but there's a clear love for tiki here. There is a wall with tiki mugs, tikis adorn the thatch-topped bar (which has 18 rotating beers on tap), and some tiki art is on display -- including impressive tikis carved by Cindy's son, restaurant manager Anthony Dijos. The pizzas incorporate lots of unusual island flavors, going beyond the expected Hawaiian pizza, with Spam, mango, macadamia nuts and coconut.
Tiki Tolteca
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States (Closed)
When Tiki Tolteca opened in May 2013, it was the first tiki bar to operate in New Orleans in decades. It sat within a Mexican taqueria called Felipe's, and as such was a blend of Tiki and Latin American influences. They made their own syrups and used fresh juices, and incorporated south-of-the-border spirits like mezcal, pisco and cachaa beyond the expected rum. Food was available from Felipe's below.
The space blended exposed brick with bamboo and thatch, and there were many beachcomber lamps. Drinks were served in tiki mugs, or in the heavy, blue-rimmed glasses that are familiar in Mexican restaurants.
Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29 is located right next door.
On September 27th, 2021, Tiki Tolteca announced their permanent closure... with the caveat that they might still host private events on occasion within the space.
Tiki Tanning
Clive, Iowa, United States (Closed)
Opened in early February 2004.
Tiki Tanning was, as the name cannily suggests, a tanning salon.
It was located in the strip mall behind the Anglo building. Tiki had nine tanning beds and a high-pressure bed where you could tan in 12 minutes.
The owners were Wendy Burr and Jason Fielder. Wendy's mother, Ann Burr, was the manager.
Tiki Cove at the Mecca Bar
Fairbanks, Alaska, United States (Closed)
Tiki Cove was once part of the Mecca Bar in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Wally Burnett opened the Mecca Bar in 1946, and in 1958 he added Tiki Cove in the basement. The bar featured an original mural with trees and a mountain range, some tapa cloth designs and fish net. The tikis were bolted to the floor to keep them safe from thieves. It’s been said that you could enjoy the cocktails and Chinese food in the privacy of a rickshaw table. The bar also featured a clamshell phone booth.
Tiki Cove relocated out of the basement of the Mecca Bar in 1977 into the top floor of the Polaris Hotel where it didn’t last long.
Mecca Bar is still open...
