Founded in the 1930's as the California Figurine Company in Los Angeles CA, in 1946 the company moved its operations to Pasadena, CA and changed its name to Weil of California. In its time it was one of the top six dinnerware producers in California.
They operated until 1955.
The company's pieces were known for their bright colors, unique styles, and charming shapes, and were popular during the mid-century California ceramic scene. Weil Ware was practical and helped people get through the Great Depression and World War II. The dinnerware was produced in mix and match forms and featured pastel shades with hand-painted images of flowers, bamboo, and mangos. Weil Ware pieces are stamped with a logo that includes a burro, and the company adopted some Catalina Pottery molds, including Avalon Art Ware, Aurora Art Ware, Catalina Art Ware, and Floral Art Ware.
