a.k.a. Sepik River Bucket Mug
Mug Design:
A large, slightly hourglass shaped, mug that is hand carved and decorated with an applied Ancestor Mask resembling those created by the people of the Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea. The mask is decorated with beads, natural twine, and shells. Primary glaze colors are red, white and brown. The stylized carvings on the back of the mug are done in the same colors. The mug is high fired (cone 10) stoneware. The mask is press molded from the mask of JMC's earlier Sepik Phallacy Mug.
