I acquired the actual 3-part plaster mold to make this figure. Figures measure 3.5 inches long by 2.25 inches high. This example is of a porcelain slip-cast piece poured from this mold. This is a smaller version of the same figure I've seen used before which measures 4.5" X 6.25".
Distinguishing Characteristics
I have the mold for this pin-up figure. I actually sold this particular figure which was poured in porcelain, but could easily make more if I make some kiln time somewhere.
Holland Molds Kneeling Pinup Ashtray
Trader Tom
This vintage piece came out of an estate sale and the seller said it was originally purchased on the big island, in Kona, many years ago. It measures 9' wide by 9' long and 6 1/4' high. It has a beautiful drip glaze blue interior and the wahine and outside of the piece are white. This is a crisp version off of the early mold. This wahine can also be found on the original Vicious Virgin Bowl Arm Raised. In recent years, Gecko has resurrected the mold for this wahine and has incorporated her into several pieces, including his various South Seas Virgin Bowls, Da Pig Puka with Wahine, and Kingstiedye's Pele Bowl. I was thrilled to find this piece. It makes me wonder what else is out there that I don't know about! I've included a shot of the maker's marks on the bottom. UPDATE: Upon further research I've found that the seated wahine was produced from a Holland brand hobbyist mold and I have acquired the mold.

This mug is my eighteenth completed piece from a 1963 Duncan Moai Mug Mold that I purchased off E-bay. Ernie Keen helped me with pouring and firing, however I did all the glazing. I sold a previous one of this color combination at Tonga Hut's Moai Show. I call this the "Molten Brown Moai" for the hints of red in this otherwise satin brown glaze.

This mug is my sixteenth completed piece from a 1963 Duncan Moai Mug Mold that I purchased off E-bay. Ernie Keen helped me with pouring and firing, however I did all the glazing. I call this the "Fireworks Moai". It has a yellow background with red, green, and orange crystals which "exploded" when fired in the kiln. Extra heavy mug compared to the other ones since the slip sat in the mold longer. One of my favorites I've made so far.

Hawaiian Distillers Plastic Okolehao Bottle Small & Short
Trader Tom
Still 1/2 inch of liquid inside. I broke the seal and tried this out with Kelly Reilly, Hiphipahula, and it tasted terrible -- like paint thinner. I think that 30+ years in a cheap plastic bottle leeched out some of the plastic's chemicals and turned it bad. Or it just went bad due to age and temperature changes. Either way, I don't recommend trying anything out of one of these vintage plastic bottles!
