Babaloon #1 was sculpted first, but #1.5 was glazed first to meet an art show deadline. This is a bowl pictured in The Tonga Lei's menu and used for their "Pele" cocktail. Additionally, there are photos of a hostess holding the bowl in their brochures (see background).
The bowl appears to have been two pieces, with the bottom two tiers connected, but the smallest and top-most tier removable.
The Tonga Lei was a restaurant and motel on the Pacific Coast Highway in scenic Malibu, and operated from the '60s probably into the '70s, when it became a Don the Beachcomber.
It's now the non-tiki Malibu Beach Inn.

This ashtray was manufactured by Coco Joe's in their black lava color and is made of composite resin. It is shaped like a volcanic crater and reads "Hawaii" across the inner rim. The word Hawaii does not form the mountains on this one, and the letters become part of the molten lava flow on the bottom.
