Johnny Sens Square-Toothed Tiki Mug
in 4 collections
These tiki mugs were made by Johnny Sens, in the early 1960's, and are marked as such. Dates of 1961, 1963, and 1965 have been spotted on different mugs marked "Johnny Sens". Identical to wall masks and standing figures by Napco, however. Tiki has two rows of even teeth, and a zigzag hairline that could signify a drum head, but gives a frankenstein-like appearance.

This mug was designed for the Goin' Primitive Event on October 14th-16th, 2011, in Newberry Springs, CA. The standard event edition (limited to 90 regular green fez and 10 surprise package leopard spotted fez mugs) more closely resembles the colors of the original art with a bluish tinge to the ape head and a green fez. Don the Beachcomber Hollywood Bamboo Mug
aka Don the Beachcomber Lipstick Mug in 1 collection
This bamboo-like tumbler is from Don the Beachcomber in Hollywood. It has a matte beige colored front except for the top third which is gloss red to match the interior. Speculation by some is that Don decided to have the tops glazed in red so that it would hide the marks of womens' lipstick, hence the "Lipstick Mug" moniker. The bottom is marked "Vermonde". A similar vessel is pictured on the Tonga Lei menu to serve the "Malibu Calls" although it does not appear to have markings on front. The Tonga Lei became a Don the Beachcomber for a time and they both appear to have used the Vermonde manufactured Cobra's Fang Mug as well.
