"These custom Hidden Harbor ceramic ashtrays were designed and produced in South Bend, Indiana by our buddy Ken at House of Tabu.
This fun little project was inspired by an ashtray used at the legendary Kona-Kai Polynesian restaurant in Philadelphia. The original ashtray appears in several of Sven Kirsten’s books and, like the long-gone Kona-Kai itself - opened in 1961 with a design by famed L.A. firm Armet & Davis - has always intrigued us.
The ashtray‘s design is based on our signature Hawaiian-style tiki by Crazy Al. Only 25 pieces were produced in each of the two pictured glazes: turquoise and seafoam green. Ashtrays will be released this Saturday to dine-in guests, cost of $45 apiece, limit one per customer. Any unsold pieces will then be available in our retail shop the next day and in our online shop on Monday, May 3, starting at 1:00 p.m. Eastern."
