From Rarabird:
"Here is TATTOO, the charming and witty concierge assistant to Mr. Rourke on the 1970’s TV show, 'Fantasy Island'.
He is posed as a mythical Hawaiian Menehune (The little people of the islands, who mostly run around naked), and holds his treasured seaplane. (You may remember the first lines of the television show were of Tattoo ringing the tower bell, notifying that the guests had arrived to the island, when he would proclaim 'De plane, de plane!' In a heavy French accent.)
This mug was designed by Rarabird, the artist, and sculpted by Tom 'Thor' Thordarson. The design is derived from Rarabird’s painting 'Portrait of a Kahn Man'.
This special edition is brought to you by an oversight of an over-pour. The run of 100 mugs is complete and sold out, but I forgot to tell the ceramicist to stop pouring, and we birthed 11 extra mugs. So I am doing Māori tatooed special editions, each uniquely and intricately hand-painted by me, Rarabird, on top of the stone-firing glaze.
These hefty, heavy stoneware mugs have a clear glazed interior and are hand-painted and sealed for protection on the outside. They hold 12 ounces of your favorite beverage, and have the number of the series of the 100 'over-pour' (starting with 101) carved into the bottom of the mug, as well as the title of the mug, and the artist’s signature. There are only 11 of this special edition.
These are food-grade stone-fired ceramic mugs. They do not leak, and have been sealed with automotive two-part resin sealant on the exterior. The interior is glazed with traditional ceramic waterproof, food-grade glaze."
