This mug is shaped like one of the heads of the two famous Tikis which guard the Puuhonua o Hōnaunau (Place of Refuge) at the Puuhonua national historic site -- with the addition of a pineapple at top. These were inspired by Scott's last trip over to the Big Island when he went to visit the Ki'i at Puuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park. This Puuhonua (Place of Refuge) is where a criminal could go to seek forgiveness if they violated the Kapu and seek refuge there. Since the remains of the chiefs protected the refuge area, the warriors would not be able to shed blood on these sacred grounds of Puuhonua and so they would end their pursuit of the lawbreakers who found refuge there. Each of these heads is sold as a two part set.
