Coral Reef Vernon Kilns Chop Plate Blue
in 0 collections
This chop plate features tropical fish swimming around a coral reef, and is called the "Coral Reef" pattern. It is part of a much larger set by Don Blanding. There are three single color sets of this design (either orange, or maroon, or blue). Chop plates were larger than vintage dinner plates and were often used to serve a large portion of pork chops, hence the name. Although, in the 1960s, dinner plates were roughly 9 inches in diameter, in the 1980s, they grew to around 10 inches. This trend continued. By the year 2000, the average dinner plate was 11 inches in diameter, and now, it's not unusual to find dishes that are 12 inches or larger. So, conceivably, chop plates can now be used as regular dinner dishes.
