West Winds Motel

Mount Vernon, Washington, United States

This motel has 40 rooms, all on 1 floor. It did have a cocktail lounge adjacent to it at one point as well.

The motel was built in 1951 and features a sign out front, originally painted as a striped sail. The base of the sign was originally flanked by two tikis.

Just outside the hotel, for many years, two large Witco tiki fountains commanded attention, but at some point the motel owners began painting them over and over again in alternating colors each season.

These paint jobs appalled Witco fans in the area and many offered to buy the tikis but were turned away.

The paint jobs did little to keep away the elements and eventually the tikis became so decrepit that in 2021 the owners took the advice of the public and turned them back over to Ken & Heather Pleasant (Witco Decor). They judged that one was beyond repair but they would do what they could for both and give them a final home.

At this point there is little for a tikiphile to stop and appreciate at the West Winds Motel, but it was on the radar for Witco lovers for quite some time.

However, still open and thriving as of 2026.
