Ilene and I went here and vended at their Haunted Hulaween event and had a blast. I had been here once before as a customer to see the Tikiyaki Orchestra play. Had a great time then, too. There is also an amazing Spanish Tapas Restaurant down the street, Cafe Sevilla.

Secret Island is in the basement under "Shannon's Corner." It and the whole street is the hot night spot in Long Beach. Parking was tough, but we eventually got a spot on the street close to the bar. Indeed, Secret Island is the first Tiki Bar we've been to (of 28) that was filled with young people out for the evening. It is a BAR filled with people doing bar things. We got there late, so walking in wasn't a problem. The entrance is unique: you descend stairs then walk past a motion activated light and sound effect as you come to the door. There are lots of Tiki effects all over the bar, highlighted by a lava throne. A small band was in the corner of the room breaking down their equipment as we arrived. The decor is thorough, but perhaps done on the cheap. There was a cool thunderstorm light effect that periodically happened overhead. It's not one of the best decorated bars we've visited, but the drinks were top notch. This was unexpected, considering the "hook up" place it seemed like. We went to four Tiki bars on this LA trip (Tonga Hut, Tiki-Ti, Broken Compass, and SI), and the best drinks were definitely had here.
