Tiki Bars
Bernard's Tiki Room - at the Arvada Tavern
Arvada, Colorado, United States
Opened in 2023, Bernard’s Tiki Room is located in the upstairs room of the historic Arvada Tavern in downtown Arvada, Colorado. You can enter Bernard's through the phone booth downstairs in the Tavern, hipster prohibition style.
Bernard's is generally open evenings after 6pm Thur-Sat competently serving classic tiki drinks, and is known to host various tiki themed events and live bands.
Bernard's features a somewhat less visually impactful tiki bar setting than many, all in one large, square room - but it is cozy nonetheless.
Disney's Aulani Resort & Spa
Kapolei, Hawaii, United States
Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, is a beachside resort hotel at the Ko Olina Resort in Kapolei, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. Alongside Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Aulani is Disney's third "stand-alone" hotel located in an area without any adjacent theme parks.
Aulani was opened to the public on August 29, 2011, with 359 hotel rooms and 460 time-share villas on 21 acres. A November 2018 report stated that, at that time, there were 351 rooms (in two 15-story towers), including 16 suites and 481 villas, most being "2-bedroom-equivalent." In an October 2018 review, it was noted that there were three restaurants with seating (Makahiki, Ulu Cafe, and 'AMA'AMA) as well as smaller outlets providing snacks, including the 'Off the Hook' poolside lounge. The bars (including The ‘Ōlelo Room adjacent to the Makahiki, Off The Hook, and the Wailana Pool Bar) offer a small selection of a dozen or so tropical cocktails. See menus below for Off The Hook and Wailana poolside dining/cocktails.
*NOTE: In 2011, when Aulani opened, Critiki chose not to include it in their directory and, indeed, mytiki.life held off from including it for some time as well. This is not because it isn't a wonderful resort, but because its very concept was outspokenly anti-Tiki in concept design. It was conceived as a love-letter to the Hawaiian people and they wanted to be as respectful of local culture as possible by downplaying Disney and tiki concepts and elevating Hawaii's historical and cultural aspects (lowercase "d" and upper case "H" as some designers put it). They did not want to overwhelm visitors with conflicting themes from other Disney IPs or draw criticism for including Enchanted Tiki Room/Rolly Crump style fantastical elements that were more of an Imagineer's dream than anything rooted in Polynesian culture.
Of course, being Disney, and a corporation with a need to synchronize properties and merchandise, they immediately began breaking their own rules, but even at that they were studiously rigorous about keeping things contained. A tiki-like Stitch statue from the film Lilo and Stitch, was placed prominently. Character actors portraying Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Stitch, and Moana interacted with visitors. Tiki-like menehune statues dotted the grounds, especially in child-friendly areas. These seemed like fairly unobtrusive and tasteful inclusions.
But no tiki mugs to be found...until Fall of 2023 when some elegant and restrained pieces showed up as part of a large set in their gift shop -- and not labeled as tiki mugs, but as "serveware".
So, with these "serveware" pieces in circulation, we've finally decided to add this resort to the listings. It may not embrace the Tiki Aesthetic as much as Disney's Polynesian Resort in Florida or other locations, and may remain more "tiki adjacent" than truly "poly pop tiki" but Aulani has definitely set foot into the mug collectors realm with their 2023 gift shop offerings.
Encio's Tiki Bar
Ferrara, Italy
Opened @2021.

Roxy's Tikibar
Nijmegen, Netherlands
Opened @November 2022.
From Roxy's:
"Roxy's Tikibar is the new place in Nijmegen for the tastiest cocktails, burgers and nachos. Exotic cocktails are central to tiki culture , including in our tiki bar.
We serve a wide range of well-known cocktails such as the Mojito, Pornstar Martini or Moscow Mule. Of course you will also find special tiki cocktails such as the Mai Tai, the Jungle Bird or the Ancient Mariner. One cocktail sounds and tastes even more exotic than the other. Served in an original tiki mug, you will soon feel like you are on holiday in our atmospheric cocktail bar.
Will we see you soon for a cocktail and a burger or a large bowl of nachos? Love, Team Roxy's"
Tucano's - Surry Hills
Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia
Opened in August 2023.
From the Tucano's website:
"Where tropical breeze meets Italian seas.
Experience our version of Modern Tiki, where tropical and Mediterranean flavours meet. (Tucano is Italian for toucan!)
Whether you’re after dinner, drinks, or disco party vibes set to our funky soundtrack, Tucano’s is a colourful local Surry Hills bar where we encourage you to wet your beaks."
*Not to be confused with the popular Brazilian grill restaurant chain of the same name in the US.
Tucano's is a bit misleading with describing itself as "Modern Tiki" but at least they acknowledge that it is their "version" and that there is some fusion with other genres going on (zebra and leopard upholstered furniture, disco night, and original tropical cocktails that tilt more toward Miami than Polynesia).
"Tiki" seems to be the leading buzzword when people really just mean "jungle" or "tropical" or "beachy". However, Tucano's does seem like a fun place and the cocktails sound good as well.

Duke's Hideaway - at McCray's Tavern On The Beltline
Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Opened July 26th, 2023.
This is sort of a reincarnation of Tiki Tango, which closed in June of 2022.
The upstairs space above McCray's Tavern on the Beltline (formerly The Baxter on the Beltline) provides plenty of seating and a great view of the city.
Many of the set pieces from Tiki Tango can be spotted, including the tiki that greets visitors at the entrance.
Tiki Rancher (Frank Simotics) was also essential to this build-out as well.
The bar serves a full menu of tiki cocktails in tiki mugs and has branded mugs and glassware for sale.
Kiki's Tiki Lounge
Douglas, Isle of Man
Established November 12th, 2020.
Formerly Peggy's, which appears to have been a divey but beloved disco nightclub.
This new Kiki's bar concept was developed to use the under-utilized space within Peggy’s. The team behind Kiki's promise “higher end” cocktails, a private entrance and a table-service only policy, and tell patrons of the former club to think of it as Peggy’s more sophisticated big sister.
The bars owners say they take inspiration from the legendary tiki bars such as Trader Vic’s and Don the Beachcomber. Visitors can expect that traditional tiki bar feel, coupled with a soundtrack of reggae, motown and disco classics.
Alex Lewthwaite, General Manager of Peggy’s and Director of Extra Fancy Limited said; “When we were brainstorming ideas for a new cocktail bar, we thought a tiki paradise in such troubling times where it’s no longer as easy to hop off on holiday would provide the Manx public with some much needed ‘sunshine’ and escapism!”
*NOTE: All that said, the interior design of this bar is still closer to a dive tiki bar than to early Trader Vic's or Don the Beachcomber. There is some thatch and natural fiber on the ceiling and walls, some inexpensive Indonesian style masks, and some tropical pillows strewn about, but it appears a bit thrown together. The cocktail menu does look well thought-out and has some tiki classics on it that look very promising, however.
Chief's Da Tiki Bar
Bonita, California, United States
Opened @ February 2023.
This small place is run by a Chamorro family that also runs the adjacent JJ's Island Grind restaurant. You can bring in food from there (which is mostly Hawaiian, Chamorro and Filipino style foods). The bar is a mix of what one might call modern Island style, and a lot of the decor is standard, mass-produced stuff (masks, fish floats, signs, etc.). There are several TV screens, but they seem to mostly play Chamorro music videos.
Devil's Den
Boise, Idaho, United States (Closed)
Opened @2021.
This space was formerly RamaPong (ramen and ping pong) but switched it up during the pandemic and while they still served ramen, their theme became tropical/goth with a full menu of tiki cocktails (both traditional and originals) served in tiki mugs.
The decor was a bit minimalistic without the layers of Polynesian carvings and artwork you might see at older classical tiki bars, but it was dark and well-lit with mood lighting and they had lots of skeletons and fake foliage as well as some netting on the ceiling and some bamboo/reed fencing wrapped around the main bar.
Closed October 3rd, 2023.
Chung's Restaurant
Cleveland, Ohio, United States (Closed)
Opened circa 1975.
Chung's Restaurant was a Chinese Restaurant with a menu of tropical cocktails served in tiki mugs.
Their reputation seems to have grown and endured, however, because of their frequent live jazz music sessions which ran from roughly 1977 through the early 90s. Many of these sessions were taped and are still available on YouTube, but they show little of the actual restaurant beyond rattan chairs, and a lauhala wall.
This site is now home to Jeffrey Paul's Hair & Scalp Specialists as of 2023.
Bradley’s Puka-Puka
San Diego, California, United States (Closed)
Opened in 1938, Bradley's Puka-Puka was a pre-tiki tropical rum bar that managed to remain open until 1970.
The bar was located on the mezzanine level of Bradley’s 5 & 10.
All drinks served were priced at five or 10 cents each and the menu featured 150 varieties of rum.
The original building was demolished in the early 1980s.
