Tiki Bars
Friki Tiki - Newcastle
United Kingdom
Opened on February 23rd, 2024.
Friki Tiki occupies the ground-floor of No28 bar in Nelson Street, at the entrance of the Grainger Market.
Owner Paul Skevington says:
"I am very excited about the project. William Hill used to occupy the ground floor but it has been empty for over 3 years now and it's time to bring it back into use. No28 has a very unique look and feel which has proved to be very popular. We are going to make sure the Tiki bar is just as unique, Our 8ft fibreglass shark is just one of the features that will surprise people when they walk in, that`s not to mention the smoke-breathing tiki totem men and we have been buying all sorts of unique bits and bobs for over 6 months in anticipation of opening."
In addition to more traditional tiki cocktails, they also have slushie machine drinks, mocktails, and a range of food, including Jambalaya.
They are the only tiki bar in Newcastle, and the first one in about 10 years since the Kanaloa chain closed all their locations including the one in Newcastle.
Kitchen 5315 Restaurant & Tiki Bar
Lahaina, Hawaii, United States
Opened around 2017.
This is a restaurant and tiki bar inside the Napili Shores Resort in Lahaina.
The restaurant dining area is a large open room bordered by windows with spectacular island views.
The interior of the restaurant and bar are not decorated in an immersive classic style like you might expect from classic tiki bars like Trader Vic's, etc. Instead, the restaurant has white ceilings and their tropical accents mainly consist of bamboo trim and faux greenery throughout with a few inexpensive tiki masks. The tiki bar is a smaller, darker, and cozier space with more tiki masks and a tiki mural on the back wall.
Solid food offerings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A small number of classic tiki cocktails, and other more modern cocktails with a tiki spin - and a couple of non tiki drinks renamed to be tiki-ish.
Glitter Gulch Tiki
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Opened October 4th, 2024.
This bar’s space used to be occupied by Nacho Daddy, which relocated just north to 121 North 4th Street while its team ventures into the tropical with Glitter Gulch Tiki. The name “Glitter Gulch” has been absent from downtown Las Vegas since the Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch club closed in 2016. Glitter Gulch, the decades-old nickname for the sparkly stretch of downtown, earns its way into this tiki bar with elements of neon in the ceiling and glitter in the tables.
Bamboo Ben and Son did an outstanding job on the build-out on this bar with all the traditional bamboo, thatching, and tiki carvings.
With a 90-person capacity, the venue boasts beachy lounge areas, a centerpiece bar, and a dance floor accompanied by a stage for live music.
A standout visual element also includes tiki window wraps by local artist Shawn Gatlin, also known as You Killed Me First.
There are also a huge number of mugs on display, especially from Tiki Farm.
The Lobby Tiki Bar & Grill - at The Brick House
Oceanside, California, United States
Opened at the beginning of 2025 in what used to be the lobby of Oceanside's Brick Hotel (established in 1988), The Lobby Tiki Bar & Grill replaces the former Q&A Restaurant and Oyster Bar.
Owned by Pete Cich, of Grind & Prosper Hospitality.
The space is decorated with lauhala matting on the walls, fake foliage, and tiki masks.
They have a full cocktail menu and serve cocktails in tiki mugs.
Early reviews report that although the interior decor may not be as extensive/immersive as some tiki venues, the food and cocktails are both on point and, exotica music is often played.
So, overall, a good strong start.
Tiki Jungle - Gdańsk
Gdańsk, Poland
Opened @ January 2022.
Tiki Jungle is about 6 hours away from Berlin, Germany. This bar is located in the former German city of Danzig (now Gdańsk, Poland) on the coast of the Baltic Sea.
They also do music events at the Tiki Jungle, but you should check before your visit.
Mangoladas Tiki Bar
Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Germany
Built December 18th, 2010.
This is a lightly themed tiki bar with a mural of a surfing tiki on one interior wall, some netted fish floats, and bamboo trimming.
They do serve a variety of tiki cocktails in tiki mugs.
Cheeky Tiki - Kailua-Kona
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, United States
Opened @ November 2022.
This venue is located in the heart of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It features craft tiki cocktails and island influenced food accompanied by a gorgeous view overlooking Kailua Bay.
They do have a few tikis and tropical elements like rattan furniture, lauhala matting, and tiki mugs to serve drinks in, however, the open floor plan and white ceilings, as well as the outside seating all lend themselves to much more of a beachy resort vibe than a dark and intimate tiki bar vibe.
Still, the views are spectacular and cocktails have received high praise.
Monkey Room - at The Sillman Hotel
Spokane, Washington, United States (Closed)
The Sillman Hotel was built in 1910 by the Sillman Brothers.
It was a five-story brick construction (125 rooms and 8 apartments) on the Southwest corner of Third and Monroe in Spokane, Washington.
The ground floor had a large dining room, The Monkey Room (a Pre-Tiki Tropical Bar), and a cafe, as well as a barber shop and lobby.
The Monkey Room was aptly named for the caged gibbons kept on display.
Old timers like to mention that customers entered the bar laughing and pointing at the monkeys and later, the monkeys would laugh and point at the drunken customers on their way out.
Sold in 1945 to Thomas F. Bowers, who sold it a few years later in 1950 to the Cardinal Investment Company.
In 1964, it was purchased by James P. Purvis. Purvis changed the name of The Monkey Room to the "Tahitian Dining Room".
At some point after this, the hotel was demolished. Today in 2022 it is a parking lot used by the Lexus dealer across the street on the North side.
Wind Tiki
Webster, Massachusetts, United States (Closed)
Opened in 1974.
Originally there were two locations, the other being in Worcester, MA. The Worcester location was purportedly more elaborate with a huge rock waterfall in the middle of the dining room.
This location in Webster was renovated a few times and by 2014, it had very little tiki left.
The owner, who was in his 70s at this point, sold it, and the restaurant soon re-opened under new ownership that same year (2014).
On March 18th, 2022, the restaurant was burned down by an arsonist, who was later caught.
Twin Tiki Inn
Eddyville, Kentucky, United States (Closed)
Built in 1969.
The Twin Tiki Inn boasted a Polynesian theme with gas fired tiki torches, rattan furniture, and its signature double-headed tiki sign.
In early 1992 the owner converted the property to a Regency Inn. The only trace of Tiki now, is the mention of it on the history section of their website.
Chopper Tiki Bar
Nashville, Tennessee, United States
Opened June 3rd, 2019.
Barista Parlor owner and founder Andy Mumma, Isle of Printing founder Bryce McCloud and longtime Husk Nashville bar manager Mike Wolf have taken over the former Bar Luca space, to create a neo-tiki bar with a "Jetsons" meets "Polynesian Pop" vibe.
The bar itself is trimmed out in bamboo, but the giant robot hovering over it and the sci-fi theming may scare away those looking for a more traditional tiki space.
Still, Chopper has a serious rum collection at hand and their cocktails look to be on-point.
Polynesian Village - Parker Strip
Parker Strip, Arizona, United States (Closed)
This location operated in the 1960s and appears to have been torn down around 1968.
Old advertisements tout "Shade Cabanas at the water with electricity and restrooms, Concrete Ramp, Tiki Beer Bar, Dancing, Charcoal Broil Your Steaks, Shell Gasoline Service for boats, Restaurant serving breakfast, hamburgers, sandwiches, and cold beer).
It is now home to Moonridge Marina, a private community located 1 mile south of the Parker Dam, fronting the Arizona side of the Colorado River.
