Tiki Apartments - Seattle
Seattle, Washington, United States (Closed)
The Tiki Apartments were an example of dingbats -- boxy apartments, usually supported by stilts, with open stalls below for parking. (Their name is likely to have been coined by architect Francis Ventre while he was lecturing at UCLA in the early '70s.) Thousands of the inexpensive 16-unit structures were built in the late '50s and early '60s to accommodate the huge number of people moving to the West Coast. Dingbats are being demolished by the dozen to make way for multi-story complexes with underground parking, so they are doubly ephemeral when paired with a tiki theme and tiki imagery.
Other than the sign, there doesn't appear to have been any other tikis or tiki features about this property.
Permits were issued for demolition in 2019 to build a 6-story, 56-unit new complex called Lake City Apartments.
Tiki Bar Sargans
Sargans, Switzerland (Closed)
Tiki Bar Sargans is located in a small mountain town in the Swiss Alps, east of Zurich, and very near to Austria and Lichtenstein. It was opened on July 13, 2006 by Urs Schumacher. The most prominent feature is a boat that has been turned into a large table for casual bar seating. The furniture is mostly rattan seating, and there are a few small and large tikis on the premises.

Tiki Lounge - Surrey
Surrey, British Columbia, Canada (Closed)

The site is now home to Coast Capital Savings.
Tiki Room - Stockholm
Norrmalm, Stockholm, Sweden
Stefan Kéry opened Tiki Room in Stockholm on January 23, 2002, becoming the first tiki bar in Sweden, at a time when tiki bars didn't tend to open anywhere, much less in the far-flung corners of the globe. The walls are lined with tapa cloth, bamboo, and lauhala mats, and a warm glow is provided by an array of pufferfish lamps and Orchids of Hawaii lights. There are tikis aplenty, including a tiki post standing guard at every booth. The menu has a mix of classic and modern tiki favorites, including bowl drinks served in tiki-flanked volcano bowls.
Bernard's Tiki Room - at the Arvada Tavern
Arvada, Colorado, United States
Opened in 2023, Bernard’s Tiki Room is located in the upstairs room of the historic Arvada Tavern in downtown Arvada, Colorado. You can enter Bernard's through the phone booth downstairs in the Tavern, hipster prohibition style.
Bernard's is generally open evenings after 6pm Thur-Sat competently serving classic tiki drinks, and is known to host various tiki themed events and live bands.
Bernard's features a somewhat less visually impactful tiki bar setting than many, all in one large, square room - but it is cozy nonetheless.
Encio's Tiki Bar
Ferrara, Italy
Opened @2021.
This tiki bar is located in the center of Ferrara, Italy.
Kiki's Tiki Lounge
Douglas, Isle of Man
Established November 12th, 2020.
Formerly Peggy's, which appears to have been a divey but beloved disco nightclub.
This new Kiki's bar concept was developed to use the under-utilized space within Peggy’s. The team behind Kiki's promise “higher end” cocktails, a private entrance and a table-service only policy, and tell patrons of the former club to think of it as Peggy’s more sophisticated big sister.
The bars owners say they take inspiration from the legendary tiki bars such as Trader Vic’s and Don the Beachcomber. Visitors can expect that traditional tiki bar feel, coupled with a soundtrack of reggae, motown and disco classics.
Alex Lewthwaite, General Manager of Peggy’s and Director of Extra Fancy Limited said; “When we were brainstorming ideas for a new cocktail bar, we thought a tiki paradise in such troubling times where it’s no longer as easy to hop off on holiday would provide the Manx public with some much needed ‘sunshine’ and escapism!”
*NOTE: All that said, the interior design of this bar is still closer to a dive tiki bar than to early Trader Vic's or Don the Beachcomber. There is some thatch and natural fiber on the ceiling and walls, some inexpensive Indonesian style masks, and some tropical pillows strewn about, but it appears a bit thrown together. The cocktail menu does look well thought-out and has some tiki classics on it that look very promising, however.
Shrunken Head Tiki Bar - Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States
Opened February 2022.
They tout themselves as being the first and only tiki bar in Colorado Springs, but Tommy Wong did have an Island Restaurant in Colorado Springs (not much evidence remains today). Still, for today's customers, this is definitely the only place in town.
Audriana Crane co-owns Shrunken Head Tiki in Colorado Springs along with local entrepreneur Joe Campana.
They were inspired by visiting Golden Tiki and Frankie’s Tiki Room in Las Vegas and wanted to bring something like that to Colorado Springs.
The main entrance is a door between Oskar Blues Grill & Brew and Bell Brothers Brewing entrances. There’s an elevator or stairs to take you down.
The focal point of the bar is a bubbling fountain with a fog machine and greenery.
The center bar has swings for seating and a whimsical Light Brite peg game.
The back bar has skulls embedded into the divider walls.
Drinks are served in an assortment of tiki mugs.

Rita's Tiki Room
Milano, Italy
Opened May of 2019.
The team at Rita placed their trust in their long-time friend Matteo Oioli. Matteo was the head set and props designer for television programs such as Friends, and global events such as the 2006 Turin Olympics, 2014 Sochi Olympics, 2016 Asian Olympics, and AIMAG in 2017. Matteo perfectly understood their desire to create an authentic tiki location with a strong visual impact. He managed to take advantage of the height of the space to fill it with elements that slowly reveal themselves to Rita’s patrons, gradually displaying the finishing details in the materials.
Woven coconut walls, hanging pots from the ceiling, ropes, bamboo chandeliers, jungle-style wallpapers, wicker chairs and tables, a terrace, vintage ceiling fans, hanging coconut leaves, juta lamps, a giant handmade canoe, and an infinite number of plants contribute to the overall setting. The bar also sports a 15 meter long oxidized brass counter with wooden finishing that snakes between the rooms and a tiki carved by specialist Paul Campese (Tiki Campese), who accurately reproduced the bar’s logo (originally designed by the Paperplane Factory).
McGuire's Tiki Room
Arden Hills, Minnesota, United States (Closed)
McGuire’s Restaurant and Lounge was located at 1201 W. County Road E in Arden Hills, three miles north of Highway 36 on US 10 between Lexington and Snelling.
McGuire’s seems to have opened in or before 1961.
They had several themed rooms, starting with the Tiki Room, but also including a Ranch Room/Piano Bar, Shamrock Room/Dance Hall, and the Gasthoff Room/German Buffet.
The themes and acts appear to have changed with the times and the location seems to have continued until some time into the 1980s.
