The Shameful Tiki Room opened in Vancouver's Riley Park neighborhood in March 2013. Owner Rod Moore has dedicated himself to creating a classic Polynesian Pop escape, with a dimly-lit, windowless environment decked with bamboo and float lamps. The space is small, but there is a kitchen, and theme-appropriate live music acts are sometimes showcased.

In November 2015, a sister location was opened: The Shameful Tiki Room in Toronto, Ontario.

Sutra Tiki Bar operated in the late '00s in Toronto's Little Italy neighborhood, until it closed in 2012. The bar had relatively light tiki theming, was quite small and narrow, and had a sand-filled back patio.

The Sip-N-Dip Tiki Lounge has been part of the O'Haire Motor Inn since 1962. The main attraction is the mermaid show -- there are windows in the bar that look into the hotel's pool, and mermaids put on a show on weekends. This mermaid show and the push towards being more "tiki" began in 1995 as the Tiki Revival was just beginning to ramp up. Another attraction is "Piano Pat" Sponheim, who has been playing piano five nights a week (Tuesday through Saturday) since 1962.

When actress Daryl Hannah, who famously played a mermaid in the movie Splash, was filming in the area, she made a special visit to the bar, even donning a mermaid suit and jumping in the pool to give a show.

In 2003, the bar was featured on a list of the top 10 bars in the world in GQ Magazine. In 2004, a crack in one of the glass pool walls threatened the bar; the glass walls have been replaced with new triple-pane glass.

The bar's ceiling is lined with bamboo, and there are beachcomber-inspired fish trap lamps.

The bar does especially well on weekends during the mermaid show, when patrons line up to get into the small 72-person capacity bar.

Opened in 1962 and closed in 2000.

This was actually the second location for Ciral's House of Tiki, and the first location was a few blocks north and lasted for about 8 years.

The exterior had a large neon sign flanked by several electric beer signs and had a sort of diner look to the casual observer.

This bar was a big draw for locals and for both University of Chicago students and professors alike.

The interior featured bamboo trim and curtains, hanging plants, pufferfish lamps, and a vintage Budweiser sign with circling Clydesdales.

There was a jukebox filled with 78 rpm albums, especially classic soul and R&B.

The menu featured classic rum-based tiki cocktails and if anyone ever ordered tequila they were met with a lecture by the owner on the dangers of tequila as a poisonous liquor.

Bottled beer was also available.

Their food menu is remembered for its fried fish or chicken and for its baby back ribs.

This bar was featured in the Gene Hackman film, The Package (1989) -- starting at the 50:40 minute mark.

The bar is owned by partners Melissa and Nate Yungvanitsait, owners of Northern California restaurant chain University of Beer.

Tiki purists will declare this is more of a pirate themed bar than a true tiki bar, and they may have a point, but there are also enough of the trappings of tiki bars that we all know and love to make this a worthwhile visit if you are in the area.

As has been pointed out time and again, tiki bars thrive on layering more and more details as the years go on with the "more is more" effect. So if patrons clamor for more tiki, then perhaps each successive visit will unveil more tiki.

As it stands now, here is what you will encounter:

The entrance is a beach-themed area with some tables, huts, a few very cheap tikis (including some plastic ones). You can order at the bar from here.

Going down the hallway, there’s a lounge section that’s nautical-themed including a nice photo op stop, giant squid arms made from metal, and some granite tiled walls.

The last section is a series of booths that are nominally themed as pirate jails, plus more pirate decor including a room with artifacts.

This is not a traditional tiki bar in the mold of Trader Vic's or Don the Beachcomber, with a dark, intimate, and immersive space layered in Polynesian artifacts and art.

Rather, Shawn went for more of a vacation vibe pulling from Hawaiian, Jamaican, and Mexican beach and surfer culture.

South Seas is an 8,400 square foot two-story space with an additional 1,600-square-foot outdoor deck. This is huge, and aside from a traditional bar set-up flanked by booths, there is a large dining hall area, a large outdoor patio, and a miniature golf course with a cocktail theme. This course offers lots of photo opportunities with a life-size "Don" zombie, giant octopus, planet Saturn, and other fantastical props.

*NOTE: December of 2024, the location was purchased by new owners, Ruth Gao and her husband. They have expressed a desire to keep the venue as-is but add on to it with more Hawaiian-style food and tiki cocktail options moving forward.

This tiki bar and restaurant is close to the harbor of Trieste (Italy).

This thinly veiled speakeasy tiki bar was located within the Pagoda Chinese Restaurant in Jacksonville, Florida.

The restaurant had been open since 1975, but the newer edition of the Secret Tiki Temple came about in 2017 or so.

The exterior sign highlighted that there was a tiki lounge and the murals on the exterior showed frolicking pandas as well as tikis.

Inside, the space was exclusively a Chinese style restaurant until you reached the hidden lounge of the Secret Tiki Temple.

Once inside the temple, the interior was richly layered and had tikis, Elvis paintings, fish floats, fish traps, colored mood lighting and basically everything you would expect from a vintage style tiki bar.

Closed April 26th, 2024.

Grass Skirt Tiki Room opened in downtown Columbus in November 2012. The drink and food menus included both Polynesian yesteryear classics and more modern takes on tropical. Souvenir mugs were available. The decor included echoes of Columbus' beloved Kahiki Supper Club, with contributions from local tikiphile collectors and craftspeople. There were beachcomber lamps, pufferfish, large tikis, and a lava wall, and even some bamboo pieces that originated at the Kahiki. The bar closed in September 2019.

Opened @ 2006.

A tiki bar & restaurant, tucked into a shopping center in Kihei. The decor is a mix of Polynesian Pop and surfing, with plenty of bamboo and some tikis. The inside portion is nice and dark, and there is a spacious outdoor patio. They have other things on their menu but are primarily known for their pizza. Beach Bumz is in the same shopping center.

The Tiki Lounge (opened in 1968) is located in the historic Stearns Motor Inn, which was built in 1901 and was the first sizeable hotel in Ludington (and still one of the few). While the Tiki Lounge has a few nice pieces of Witco, and will grudgingly make you a Mai Tai, this is essentially a beer-focused dance club (the website proudly advertises "10-foot video screens").

This bar and restaurant opened in September of 2018 on the street level of the Best Western Premier Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites & Conference Centre.

The bar and restaurant was known for offering live music on select nights.

However, it closed @2020.
