Tiki Bars
Tiki Underground - Cuyahoga Falls
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, United States
November 24, 2021 was Tiki Underground’s last call in its previous Hudson location. The bar moved to this new space at 1832 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 in September of 2022.
“The far side is the side of the volcano the ship ran aground, and the other side is the ship itself,” says co-owner Sean Coffey (Jessie Coffey is the other co-owner).
Arched wooden beams and portholes showing fish at the National Aquarium create the illusion of the design by “Doktor” Bill Lynn, an artist and Kahuna Kings drummer who has played the bar. Lynn made a molten concrete wall with skulls to emulate volcanic rock that backs the thatch roof-covered bar. And a hallway becomes the jungle with hanging plants and a giant skull with glowing red eyes.
“The idea for any tiki bar is escapism,” says Coffey. “You lose track of time. That’s the idea of forgetting about your troubles.”
Tiki Underground tells stories of the tiki movement through gallery-worthy memorabilia, including a large wooden tiki from Cleveland’s former Kon Tiki.
Tiki Thai
Reston, Virginia, United States
Opened December 21st, 2020 by Beverage Director and General Manager Jeremy Ross, along with co-owners Porntipa “Pat” Pattanamekar and Parasak “Sing” Chokesatean.
As you would expect from the name, this is not a traditional tiki bar/restaurant. The space is open and modern, with light oak woodwork, slate floors, and simple tropical flower print wallpaper. There are repeated tiki face panels both on the standing pillars and on metal panel dividers. However, bright track lighting and open windows in front leave no shadows to speak of.
That said, Ross's creations honor the tiki and craft cocktail culture -- with fresh ingredients and fine rums -- albeit with some sometimes surprising Thai-inspired flavor combinations.
Drinks are served in branded tiki mugs supplied by Munktiki Imports among others.
Tiki Bar Mar Del Plata
Mar del Plata, Argentina
Opened in 2010, in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
They pride themselves on being knowledgable about tiki cocktail history and in developing their own cocktails based on local seasonal fruits and juices. Additionally, they seek to please an Argentine palate and sometimes this means a tilt towards the bitter end of the spectrum. Cynar is popular, for instance. One of their popular cocktails, the Cynar Grill, is made with Cynar 70, roasted pineapple, lime juice, rosemary, elderberry and soda.
During Covid quarantines, when deliveries became the norm, they decided to put together special cocktail kit boxes which are delivered via a person dressed up as a sea lion with a captain's hat. See last photo. Since their mascot is a sea lion, it only made sense to run with it and lend a sense of whimsy to home deliveries.
Tiki Beat - at the Newport Hotel
Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia (Closed)
Opened May 19th, 2012.
The design of this bar was a collaboration with input from renowned tiki carver, Marcus Thorn (a.k.a. Tiki Beat).
It was Perth’s only portside tiki bar, serving more than 20 different types of cocktails, as well as three of its own speciality cocktails, made with Newport Spiced Rum.
Drinks were served in green-glazed tiki mugs modeled after a carving by Marcus Thorn (seen with pinup model Masuimi Max below from a photoshoot), adding to the bar’s overall ambience.
It was located within the Newport Hotel (The Newy), on the corner of South Terrace, at the end of Fremantle’s busy cafe strip.
The Newport Hotel closed December 24th, 2021 for a major rebrand into Flight Club social darts venue. Tiki Beat was closed as well.
Tiki Hut - Billerica
Billerica, Massachusetts, United States (Closed)

Tiki Bar - at Guy Fieri's Downtown Flavortown - Pigeon Forge
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, United States
Opened Tuesday, March 8th, 2022.
Famous chef and restaurateur Guy Fieri’s “Downtown Flavortown” restaurant is located on The Mountain Mile in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
The 43,000 square-foot entertainment destination centers around a 300-plus seat restaurant, showcasing Fieri fusion cuisine like his bacon mac ’n’ cheeseburger and Trash Can Nachos.
It has a 14-lane duckpin bowling alley, 10,000 square-foot arcade, full-service tropical Tiki bar, and a photo opportunity with a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro similar to the one featured on Fieri’s hit show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”
The bar itself is set up as a thatched rectangular island with bar stool seating on all 4 sides. There are also 5 thatched roof booths opposite and plenty of other open seating throughout.
The signs on the thatched roof of the main bar just say "Tiki Bar" and have a couple of small tiki masks and a third larger tiki that is recognizable to most tikiphiles as the mascot tiki from Forbidden Island in Alameda, CA (originally designed by Tiki Diablo).
A "Caliente Margarita", "Tattooed Mojito" and "Guy’s Famous BBQ Bloody Mary" are on the craft cocktail menu but you can also get traditional tiki cocktails like the 1944 Mai Tai, Jet Pilot, and Rum Barrel.
Tiki Farm manufactured 4 unique mugs for the bar to start out with, modeled after carved tiki poles in the restaurant. These are for sale on premises for $45 each.
Tiki & Co.
Kralendijk, Caribbean Netherlands (Closed)
Opened in 2020.

An unforeseen but exciting adventure that allows the ‘master of tailor-made drinks’ to pursue his ultimate goal, enter the top 100 best bars in the world, and educate a new generation of bartenders."

Tiki Motel - Vernal
Vernal, Utah, United States (Closed)
Opened in 1964.
Tom Snyder, owner, renamed this motel, formerly known as The Rest Haven. He installed the sign.
Later postcards attribute ownership to Wilford and Glenna Adams.
In addition to the sign is a large (probably concrete) moai head resembling a decanter that was created by M. H. Strikow for Kahlua liqueurs.
Today, as of 2021, there is no sign of anything tiki and the site is home to an Econo Lodge.
Tiki Chick
New York, New York, United States
Opened in January 2020.
This is a very sparsely decorated location without the large carvings and layers that you would expect from old school locations like Trader Vics. They do have some jungle monkey and hula girl wallpapered accent walls, some rattan furniture, and a few rattan ceiling fans. However, the peach-painted exterior, poured concrete bartop, and simple white globe lights in the front windows could call to mind any of hundreds of other differently themed gastropubs around the country.
Drinks are served in appropriate glassware or in generic tiki mugs and their drink menu offers an equal distribution of classics, signature cocktails, and machine-blended slushie drinks. They also have an extensive catalogue of rums and other spirits.
Their food menu offers fried chicken sandwiches, spam, and hots dogs among other things.
By all accounts their food and drinks are on point (and although the Pickle Painkiller is questionable, the restaurant's owner is Jacob Hadjigeorgis, the man behind Upper West Side’s wildly popular southern comfort food restaurant Jacob’s Pickles, so it gets a pass). Despite the interior theming leaving a bit to be desired, it's still a very pleasant place to spend an hour or two in the city.

There are 2 Tiki Docks locations -- this one in Riverview and another one in St. Petersburg, Florida. Both locations have indoor and outdoor waterfront dining.
The Riverview location is 15,000 square feet and has tiki murals on the exterior. The interior is a huge open space with blue painted support beams and blue floors, a large central bar with lots of televisions stacked upwards, and several Bosko carved masks behind the host area in front. The bathroom hall features a mural of an octopus that extends into both the men's and women's restrooms.
Tiki House Key West
Key West, Florida, United States
Opened in August 2017 in the location formerly occupied by Rumor lounge.
This two-story white-painted structure may resemble a large fraternity house made over for a luau weekend on the outside, with its brightly painted tiki masks and Corona beer ads and banners/pennants strung across the balconies, but on the inside they appear to have something for everyone.
The bar offers classic and house cocktails in tiki mugs. They also have two full pages in their menu devoted to rum tasting notes on their large selection should you prefer to sip your spirits neat.
Additionally, they have a large selection of vodka, tequila, and beers on tap.
