Opened August 15th, 2019.

Located in the Canvas Condos tower, Esotico's chic take on the retro Polynesian Pop theme featured bold tropical wallpaper offset by black-and-white checkerboard flooring and a contemporary exposed ceiling. Lush greenery tied together décor such as a Hawaiian surfboard, muted sconce lamps and track lighting. Potted plants surround the patio while a backlit bar featured a bamboo footrest and nearly 230 rums, including Daniele Dalla Pola's own label, Alamea.

On 11/18/22, they opened a speakeasy adjacent space, the Kaona Room, which was accessible through either Esotico's interior secret door or through an exterior secret door beneath next door's Caribbean Water Supply. The Kaona Room is a bit more traditional tiki with its decor, and is more than just overflow seating -- including an entirely separate bar. For more on the Kaona Room, please see separate listing.

This Dupont Circle Luau Hut, also sometimes called Luau's In-Inn Supper Club, was a short-lived sister location to the original Luau Hut location in Silver Spring, opened in 1970. It was owned by Moon Kim and Paul Malonson. There was another Washington, D.C. Luau Hut location on Capitol Hill.

Bruce T. Marston was a Californian serving in Tahiti as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. There, he met Louise, who was from Tubuai, just south of Tahiti. They fell in love, and moved to the town of Hanalei on the north side of the island of Kauai in Hawaii. There, in 1963, they opened Tahiti Nui.

Tahiti Nui became the go-to gathering place for Kauai's north shore, with musicians, hula dancing, and occasional singing from "Auntie Louise" Marston herself. Louise passed away in 2003, and Tahiti Nui is now run by Bruce and Louise's son, Christian.

Tahiti Nui makes an appearance in the 2011 film The Descendants.

The restaurant serves a mix of Hawaiian seafood standards and Italian food. The drink menu is limited, but they do have their own Mai Tai recipe, which they've been serving since they first opened. They still have live music and hula dancing.

The walls are lined with lauhala matting and bamboo, with Oceanic art pieces hanging here and there. The small round tabletops are painted with Polynesian designs, and the barstools are carved tikis. There is a small curio shop attached to the restaurant.

This new-style Trader Vic's opened in late 2007 in the Planet Hollywood Casino (formerly the Aladdin), right across from the Bellagio fountains. The space sprawled over two floors and 11,000 square feet, leading to a much more plain and dull interior than is expected at a Trader Vic's. The management there tried to appeal to the young club crowd by catering more to the ultra-lounge, vodka-bottle aesthetic than an actual old-school crafted-drink lounge.

After struggling for two years, this Trader Vic's location closed in late 2009. The location is now a Cabo Wabo Cantina.

This was the restaurant on the top floor of Harvey's Wagon Wheel Hotel and Casino, also known as Harvey's Lake Tahoe. The Top of the Wheel featured a Polynesian lounge with decor by Eli Hedley, and had a logo "Sneaky Tiki." Mugs from Harvey's are still quite easy to come by.

The lower floors of the casino were heavily damaged by a bombing in 1980, part of a failed extortion attempt. The Top of the Wheel closed sometime in the early-to-mid 1980s. Harvey's Lake Tahoe has since rebuilt, but there is no tiki bar there today.

Tabou Tiki Room opened in July 2004, with carvings by California artist Danny "Tiki Diablo" Gallardo, and artwork by German artist Moritz R.

There was a change in ownership in 2006, and the Tabou Tiki Room closed some time shortly after that.

Some of the decor from the Tabou Tiki Room wound up at Tiki Brett.

This public Las Vegas park is the site of one of the moai statues carved for Aku Aku at the Stardust by Eli Hedley. The statue sits on an island in the middle of a pond.

The Hotel Waikiki was built in 1974 on the Playa del Inglés - Gran Canaria - Spain.

Servatur acquired the hotel around 2010 and is the current corporate head as of 2024.

Originally, the hotel sported some very nice Marquesan styled tikis on its grounds.

However, although the current advertising still talks about a tiki bar poolside, it appears the original vintage decor has long been disposed of with successive remodelings, leaving only a bland resort atmosphere. The only tikis in evidence appear to be some large and cartoonish (probably fiberglass) tikis by the childrens' pool area.

This bar features a large well-stocked back bar of rums.

Green naugahyde/vinyl booths, dark moodily lit interior with fish floats hanging from a tin ceiling, framed art on the walls, many of which are covered with lahala matting, and captain's style spindle chairs complete the look of this bar.

Both Tiki Tiki on Whyte and the Honi Honi Tiki Bar in Edmonton also sport vintage carved panels from the original Edmonton Beachcomber, salvaged by appreciative collectors, and then re-sold to the New Wave bars.

Honi Honi is more cocktail and rum focused than Tiki Tiki on Whyte, which has cocktails but also focuses on its gastropub fusion food. Honi Honi has some snacks as well but drinks are the definite priority here.

Drawing its name from the original 1960's Tiki Tiki in Edmonton, this establishment opened on June 4th, 2023.

Owner Lonny Seguin was inspired to bring back Tiki to Edmonton after experiencing Tiki spots throughout Las Vegas and San Diego.

Both Tiki Tiki on Whyte and the Honi Honi Tiki Bar in Edmonton sport vintage carved panels from the original Edmonton Beachcomber, salvaged by appreciative collectors, and then re-sold to the New Wave bars.

This small bar has a menu of gastropub island-inspired fare using fresh local ingredients and serves tropical cocktails in tiki mugs.

Decked out by Rarabird (former Disney Park Decorator, Prop and Scenic artist who helped rehab and create props and florals for the Enchanted Tikiroom for the Disneyland 50th Anniversary, 2005) and the owner and mastermind, Chris Iller “The Chief” and ”Mr. Sitcom”, former fellow Disney cast member, MGM Tour Guide and TV production artist.

There was a connection between The South Seas restaurants, Anita Chue's, and The Hawaiian Restaurant. It appears Anita Chue was instrumental in starting these establishments but that she moved on after a short time and Henry Oi took over and ran them for many years.

In 1965, The Hawaiian added a discotheque area and had a free green Ku mug promotion for the opening.
