The Aloha Luau was active as an advertised business as early as 1959, but in limited capacity only as a catering and entertainment service.

In 1961, Jaisohn Hyun, executive vice-president of Jan-U-Wine Foods Corporation, and a former resident of the islands, built a two-acre luau grounds at a cost of $250,000.

Hyun aimed to re-create two acres of Hawaii in Southern California, and he duplicated the luau grounds even to the lava rock for roasting the pigs, red banana and orchid trees, and a waterfall.

Luau furniture included 90' long tables and luau cushions.

The business catered mostly to large clubs such as the Los Angeles Litho Club, Kaiser Foundation Hospital Club, and others.

The site was open at least as late as 1963... possibly later into the 60s and 70s.

Their mugs were supplied by Oceanic Arts/Desert Ceramics.

There was a Ramada Inn on the site from 1986-2018, but from 2018 to 2026 it has been a Best Western Plus Commerce Hotel.
