Toby Designs

Toby Designs, founded by Warren E. “Toby” Tobecksen in California, designed and sold tiki themed items from the late 1950s through at least the 1960s. The items included tiki mugs, tiki lights, and tiki themed luau invitations. At least five of their items (three mugs, a tiki hurricane candle lamp, and a luau invitation) were registered with the United States Copyright office in the years 1959, 1961, and 1962. Their items were sold through venues such as Oceanic Arts, Sea & Jungle, Paul Marshall Products, and Riley’s department stores. In 1968, Toby Tobecksen and his wife Barbara founded Tobar Designs, which produced musical kaleidoscopes. Barbara Tobecksen was an artist in her own right, oil paint seascapes her specialty. She was active in her art into her 90s, until her death in January, 2024.
