Red Wing Pottery was formed in 1936 after a series of mergers of smaller companies, some dating back to 1878. From 1936 until a labor strike forced closure in 1967, Red Wing made a wide array of home pottery pieces in its Minnesota factory, and was the largest pottery in the United States. In 1996 Red Wing reopened. Red Wing made a few tiki and tiki-related pieces sometime between 1936 and 1967.
