1944 Trader Vic's Kava Bowl
in 1 collection
This Trader Vic's Kava Bowl design has a more upright, vase-like shape, and has an intricate scene not unlike the old Trader Vic's menu artwork (men, women, palm trees, rum barrels). No markings. Manufacturer unknown but it was local to Oakland, CA and pre-Tepco. First issue date of this bowl is uncertain, but in use as of 1944. For more information, see the September 4th, 1944 Life Magazine article on Trader Vic's featuring this bowl. There does appear to be some variation with glaze color in early pieces, both before and during Tepco manufacture. An early prototype AP also has a more vase-like top without the scalloped edge. Later Tiki Farm reproductions kept the scalloped edge.
