Opened in late May of 2026.

So Lim Ting and his wife Yingqi Su opened Tiki Cove in the former Loyal Nine space at 17 Union Street. Before Loyal Nine, the Union Street space was home to Sons of Boston.

Both of the bars that were formerly at that location were ordered shut because of violent incidents.

Tiki Cove offers a hard re-set of this space and caters to the family-friendly and tourist crowd which swarms this area right next to Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market. They bill themselves as a "Tropical Oasis on the Freedom Trail".

The Tiki Cove logo is of a tiki head superimposed over the red brick Freedom Trail and with dog paw prints in the tiki's eyes. The restaurant aims to draw in trail tourists and people walking their dogs who are ready to take a break and hang out on the patio and partake of some refreshing tropical drinks and Chinese dumplings before continuing onward.

Under their Ting Management Group, the couple also operates several Boston-area restaurants, including Nan Xiang Express in Chinatown, Friendship BBQ in Allston, JiangNan in downtown Boston, and the recently opened Novo Lantern in the city’s South End.

The Tiki Cove's 2,418-square-foot U-shaped space features a 19-seat bar and the afore-mentioned seasonal outdoor patio.

The decor includes a bamboo-wrapped bar, with netting and basket lamps hanging from the ceiling, and lauhala matting on the walls.

There are also three large fiberglass molded and painted "sculptural idols" that are explained on their website with separate stories. One is a large tiki "Voyager Spirit" (obviously modeled after Gecko'z Ku Ku Kachoo mug from 2012), the other is a moai head with fu manchu facial hair "Sleeping Mountain Spirit", and the last is a sort of pineapple-headed princess "Goddess of Abundance" with small child on her shoulder.

Sounds like they may fill in some of the wall spaces around the dining area with more art and artifacts as time goes on...

As one would expect from the Tings, and also previously mentioned, the food menu is Chinese-driven, which matches up with the tiki aesthetic nicely.

The cocktail list, as of August, is in the process of being changed over with the help of a new general manager. The rums initially were inexpensive well-rums (Bacardi Silver, Meyers, and Malibu) but have now been changed over to use Planteray's line of rums, including OFTD and Stiggins Pineapple rums.

The general manager also expressed an interest in engaging more with the tiki community, so don't feel shy about offering your constructive criticism as they sail into their first year and are feeling their way forward as a fledgling tiki location.

As advertised on their social media, the restaurant features live entertainment, including music and a live magician, on certain days of the week, so make sure to check ahead of time to see what's happening that week.
