Open circa 1940 - 1942.

This pre-tiki location was part of Monte Proser's chain of Beachcomber restaurants. It purported to be the home of the Zombie -- the restaurant name, concept and drink had been lifted from Don the Beachcomber in Hollywood. It was located directly across from Boston Common. The interiors were created by Clark Robinson.

After it closed, the site was re-opened as the Shangri-La and open through at least 1945.

After this, it was converted by licensee Paul Hebert in 1949 into an "intown" Howard Johnson's. The restaurant featured a cocktail lounge and nearly all of the food was prepared behind the counter in plain view of its patrons.

It is now part of Emerson College, at 130 Boylston Street, located in the Theater District along the south side of the Boston Common. The door is marked as a nondescript facilities office.

The first Monte Proser's Beachcomber was in the Theater District north of Times Square in New York City; there were additional locations in Miami Beach, Baltimore and Providence.
