The Thunderbird Mug - Green - by Red Wing Pottery - for The Thunderbird Hotel

in 1 collection

This ceramic mug was made for The Thunderbird Hotel in Bloomington, Minnesota, by Red Wing Pottery sometime between 1964 and 1967, possibly as a sample. Whether it ever made it to full production to be sold at The Thunderbird giftshop is currently unknown.

The mug features a greenish-grey (salt?) overglaze, glossy underglaze notes in brick red and deep blue, and a glossy white interior. The words "The Thunderbird" appear in raised letters on the bottom. No Red Wing mark appears on the item. It features two birds above a beaver, mimicking the iconic Thunderbird Hotel totem pole road sign.

*Note: There is a matte brown version as well.
