Know as "The Lovers", Fijian versions of the faces on this statue typically have a more Moai-look, though knock-offs can tend towards an African style. They are often made of raintree wood and darkly stained, are often unmarked, and range from 8 to 20 inches tall. Some versions include shell or mother of pearl ornamentation.
Fiji, though located in the South Pacific, is primarily considered a Melanesian culture (versus a Polynesian culture) and while they do have some cultural similarities with Polynesia, the Tiki carvings of Fiji are not as prominent as in other Polynesian islands.
