The "King of the surf", this Coco Joe's "lava" statuette features a bold royal surfer.
As with most Coco Joes's sculpts, this image was used for years with minor variations along the way... some earlier versions had a flat base, script text on the bottom, sometimes noting the year as 1968 or 68, a catalog number might be missing or noted as "290" or "#290", and later versions had the round Coco Joe's "stamp" on the bottom.
A variant has gold lettering with Hawaii on the front and Aloha on the back in raised gold letters, a longer front surfboard tip, and an extra wave over the surfer's right shoulder.
