"Concept by Tangy Taupotini & Mikey Gribbin Carved by Tangy Taupotini of Cannibal Art Produced by Motu Mikey Initial Release: 2024 Rosewood Edition: XXX White Tusk Edition: XXX Medium: Cone 5 Stoneware
Inspiration Carved from an oceanic rosewood tree in the sacred valley of Hakaui on Nuku Hiva, 'Savage Tiki' is a testament to the woodcarving mastery of native Marquesan, Tangy Taupotini.
Tiki Kaipeka tells a story in three chapters: Past, Present, & Future.
The highest section represents the ancient art of the marquesas. Large eyes surrounded by subtle symbols, their meanings revered by those who can read them.
The middle introduces a more intricate style, first seen in the Late 18th century. Complex patterns drawing on the old ways gave new life to a nearly lost culture.
The base speaks to what is to come from artists like Tangy and all the talented artisans of the marquesas, each bringing their own style and ideas to carry on the legacy of the hypnotizing art of ‘Te Henua Enana’.
