On October 17, 2025, Matthew and I went to the Reef, the tiki bar at the Caliente Tropics. I got the signature drink in their signature diver mug. The drink is called the “the Treasure of la Amadarita.”

The Reef Diver Duke Diving Helmet Mug - with Blowfish

in 1 collection

The Diver Duke Diving Helmet mug was manufactured by Eekum Bookum for The Reef in Palm Springs. The mug is indeed shaped like a very realistic upside down diving helmet. It has an octopus, shells, and other undersea life encircling it. It is said Duke was on his thirteenth deep sea exploration off Anacapa Island, searching for the wreck of the lost Spanish treasure ship, “La Amadarita”.

Duke descended to the ocean floor and, as the thick kelp forest parted, the elusive wreck was before him. Making his way through the ship’s barnacle-encrusted hull, Duke suddenly felt the grip of the ship’s giant octopus guardian, who began pulling on his helmet. When Duke did not return to The Reef bar that night, his many friends sent out a search party. In the hull of the Amadarita, all that was found was Duke’s helmet.

Drink special for the Diver Duke Mug is the “Treasure of La Amadarita” (by Brandon Glass) consisting of 1 and 1/2 oz Doctor Bird Jamaican Rum, 1 oz El Dorado 5 year rum, 1/2 oz Lemon juice, 1/2 oz Grapefruit juice, 1 oz Honey Syrup, 3/4 oz Banana Liquor, and 1/4 oz allspice pimento dram.

*NOTE: There have been many editions of the Diver Duke Helmet Mug released, each with a different waiting creature on the rim (like the orange-glazed Gary fish in the first edition) -- this includes a seahorse, a skeleton fish with red eyes, an orange and black striped clownfish, a blue/black/white striped fish, custom colored fish - including solid blue, and the blowfish/pufferfish in this edition.
