September 20, 2024 - bought a mug for the holiday inn in the financial district of SF, right next to China town. It is from the 1970s, and there is a Hilton where the holiday inn used to be now.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The mug is stamped on the bottom with “Holiday Inn Financial District Chinatown San Francisco.” The hotel is now a Hilton, but according to a contact at the Chinese Historical Society, the bar inside had been called the “Eight Immortals Cocktail Lounge.” The Eight Immortals Lounge was a famous venue inside the Holiday Inn at 750 Kearny Street in San Francisco's Chinatown. It is primarily remembered today in pop culture history as the spot where a young Lynda Carter performed as a lounge singer in the 1970s before finding fame as Wonder Woman. The mug is probably a sculpted version of one of the eight carved immortal figures positioned within the bar area of the lounge.
