I got my first version of this mug from the Ko-Huna of the New York Tiki Association, Russell S. Monkey, on my first visit to New York in January 2003. It was a cold night, an unusually frozen Monday night. We visited Inky Louise's home bar, Waikiki Wally's, Lucky Chengs, and at the end of the snowy night, arrived at the deserted Otto's Shrunken Head, where Fisherman Burlesque Trio was playing to a totally empty room. By that point in the night, our clan consisted of three wahines, Inky Louise, Manic Cat, and myself. Fisherman was pleasantly surprised to find himself playing for such a receptive, though small crowd. It was a magical night. So magical that I left my mug somewhere, and so Russell had to mail me this one, which is why it says "DO NOT LOSE THIS MUG" on it. That Russell is the best monkey.
