Kahala
15 Oct 2023
Was in Barcelona for a conference and very excited to cross my first non-US "Important" (https://punchdrink.com/articles/15-most-important-best-tiki-bars-chicago-london-sf/) Tiki bar off.
The entrance and ambiance were amazing. I went around 8pm on a Sunday night and it was still very quiet. The bartender was very gracious and told me a lot about the history and his hopes to improve the quality of the cocktails (they are similar to other Tiki temples from this era). When I mentioned I lived near New Orleans he told me that Beachbum berry and others from the modern Tiki craft cocktail revival had come to Kahala for research before opening their places, which I thought was interesting.
All in all a great visit for people interested in Tiki history when in Barcelona.

Tiki Bar
Kahala
Barcelona, Spain
Kahala opened on April 21, 1971 and was the first tiki bar in Spain. There were once 14 tiki bars in Barcelona, and Kahala has survived these many years because it has much to offer.
It still has all the original decor. You cross a waterfall to a long bar space, with various private seating areas, including King chairs. Staff wears Hawaiian shirts and the mugs are all original with a massive selection.
The cocktails and music may not always endear themselves to tiki purists, but if you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to check out one of the elder tiki temples still in existence.
