Maori Trophy Head Mug
Sea Wolf
Distinguishing Characteristics
Unique Toi Moko design. All mugs were individuals.
From Thor himself. This was a trophy head mug I produced a small number of about 8 years ago. Based on the real mummified heads or Toi moko, or mokomokai…the preserved heads of Māori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, where the faces have been decorated by tā moko tattooing. They became valuable trade items during the Musket Wars of the early 19th century. These ceramic pieces I sculpted and produced in my home studio were inspired by this story above. -Thor
