Rongo Tiki Drink Bowl Green
Trader Tom
This limited edition of 500 mugs was created by Kevin Kidney and Jody Daily for the 45th Anniversary of the Enchanted Tiki Room. The mug was supposed to make its debut five years earlier for the 40th anniversary, but there was a mishap at the factory. It is modeled after an original design by imagineer Rolly Crump. Advertisements show it being used as a fruit bowl also, but it is indeed intended for drinks. It is shaped like a goblet with a seated tiki figure holding up the bowl-shaped portion. Green glaze. Marked on bottom with names of designers. Made in China. Tags attached around stem with twine. Separate half-sheet "certificates of authenticity" were given out to some mug buyers and some of these were signed by Jody and Kevin as well.

Rapa Nui Birdman Bowl
Trader Tom
The first of these complex bowls exploded in the kiln, but this one survived. This hand-built bowl features four birdmen holding a small bowl aloft. The larger bowl's outside is imprinted with petroglyph birdmen figures. Piece is finished with a light tan glaze that's very rustic and natural looking. Bottom of bowl is signed by artist.
One of the most famous motifs on Easter Island is that of the Birdman, a therianthropic figure, half man and half bird.
Over time, Moai statue making appears to have ceased, and the birdman cult came into being, reflecting a change from ancestor worship to a religion based around a new warrior class. Those who won the birdman contest were imbued with status and spiritual authority able to act as intermediaries to the spirit realm.
The most sacred area at Orongo is called Mata Ngarau, where priests chanted and prayed for success in the annual egg hunt.
The purpose of the birdman contest was to obtain the first egg of the season from the offshore islet Motu Nui. Contestants descended the sheer cliffs of Orongo and swam to Motu Nui where they awaited the coming of the birds. Having procured an egg, the contestant swam back and presented it to his sponsor, who then was declared birdman for that year.

Purple Orchid Bumatay Mug
Trader Tom
A Bumatay style Tiki mug with brown interior and exterior glaze. This mug was commissioned by David Fernandez, owner of The Purple Orchid Tiki Lounge in El Segundo, CA. It was sculpted and produced, after a vintage Bumatay mug, by Al Zequeira (Tiki Al). After the slipcasting was done, Al hand detailed all the wood grain and added the lettering around the base and on the bottom of each mug. To date, 119 mugs have been produced (not including artist proofs). Ten of the first 14 were made available for sale December 18th, 2010 at the restaurant for $30 a piece. Another 15 went on sale February 5th, 2011. The original 14 included 8 purples and 6 bluish white versions. The bluish white version appears to be slightly larger -- maybe by an eighth of an inch. The second batch included 1 more purple and 1 more bluish white one, but also 10 brown ones (a very few of which are reddish brown) and 3 whitish blue ones. 25 more brown and 25 more purple were released for sale on 08/10/2011. 20 more brown and 20 more bluish white ones were released for sale on 12/18/2011. Because it's an artist proof, this particular mug is lacking any identifying inscription on base or bottom but says "AP #1 Tiki Al" on bottom in silver pen.
