Led Zeppelin IV Mug
in 1 collection
This is a mug shaped like a fog cutter and decorated with imagery from Led Zeppelin's fourth album. Sculpt and manufacturing by Wendy Cevola. This is an original one-off commissioned design. The front shows a hooded, Druid-like figure holding a lantern, standing on rocks. It was taken from the inside sleeve of the record. The sleeve art, in turn, is from a charcoal drawing by lead guitarist Jimmy Page's friend Barrington Colby. Colby evidently drew it at Page's request. The man with the lantern is sometimes said to be The Hermit, Number IX in the tarot card deck, who is usually represented as a bearded monk holding a lamp to light the way. Of the image, Page was quoted: "The idea represents the ascension to the beacon and the light of truth." Many people thought this figure was actually Gandalf the Wizard out of The Lord of the Rings since some of their lyrics make mention of Tolkien's work. The back of the mug features symbols which represent all four of the band members.
