Shuten Doji Demon Mug - Blue Edition - by Chris Shima - for Shima Ceramics
aka aka Drunken Demon - Blue - by Chris Shima in 2 collections
From Shima Ceramics:
"You guys, I’m so happy how these Shuten Doji mugs turned out! It’s the biggest, baddest demon mug yet. 32oz, 7.5 inches tall. Hand-sculpted original, made 100% in house as always.
Only 80 mugs will be made in total, give or take a few. This is the third Japanese demon mug in a series of at least 6 that I’ll make.
About the demon: Shuten Doji, the drunken demon, was a bad-ass demon lord from 14th century Japanese mythology. The story is that as a human he was a mean, brutal drunk that put on a demon mask at night as a joke, but that it stuck to his face permanently. He became a powerful, blood-drinking demon lord, one of the most feared yokai in Japan."
There were 4 main color-ways of this design (red, black, black & gold, green). Later one-offs including all gold were made also.
