Lost Lei Vintage Tiki Mug
aka Unauthorized Mana-Mana Tiki Mug - for Lost Lei in 3 collections
Made for The Lost Lei in Austin, Texas. These are glaze in blue and embellished in what looks like gold paint pen.
This mug was originally designed by AtomicTonyTiki (Mana Mana Tiki Mug) and is in the style of a traditional Maori figure. The tiki is holding a smaller tiki head in its hands. The original version was manufactured by Tiki Farm but this is an unauthorized version with distorted details that was sold on e-Bay, Amazon, and through several wholesale bar supply stores (like Barconic) online.
Only sold at the bar for a short time before The Lost Lei pulled these mugs from shelves and discontinued their use at the bar. They were not destroyed, however, and continue to be sold on the secondary market through eBay and other venues.
Lost Lei El Diablo Mug
aka The Lost Lei Fijian Mermaid Mug in 4 collections
Issued in a wipe turquoise glaze. Marked "The Lost Lei Austin" with their logo. This is a mug shaped like a Fijian Mermaid sideshow gaffe. The Fijian mermaid (also Fiji or Feejee mermaid) was an object comprising the torso and head of a juvenile monkey sewn to the back half of a fish. It was a common feature of sideshows, where it was presented as the mummified body of a creature that was supposedly half mammal and half fish.
This mug design is an unauthorized use of the original design which was designed by THOR and produced by Tiki Farm in 2014 for Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago, IL.
The face was changed for The Lost Lei, and, among other things, they gave the figure small eyeballs instead of cavernous skull eye sockets. Despite this, the source of the design was still unmistakable. Due to overwhelming criticism at the blatant unauthorized use of design work from Three Dots and a Dash, The Lost Lei pulled these mugs from shelves and discontinued their use at the bar. They were not destroyed, however, and continue to be sold on the secondary market through eBay and other venues.

Disneyland Pele Mug - Blue Green Ombre Glaze
in 1 collection
This mug was made by Bauer Pottery in 2019 after the molds were found in their warehouse. There are only two known to have been produced by Bauer in 2019, both in this same glaze that were tests of the molds and glaze, and they were sold in the Bauer showroom. They still retain the 'Copyright Disney' stamp from the mold, but unlike the original mug, do not have a straw hole. Copyright issues likely prevented Bauer from making more of these.
Original description of the mug sculpt: Very large tiki based on the volcano goddess Pele from the lanai pre-show at the Enchanted Tiki Room in Disneyland. Original design by Rolly Crump, adapted design by Jody Daily, and sculpt by Squid. Jody Daily's original design called for the volcano lid to be used for flaming garnish, with a straw hole on the side, but Disney opted to instead put the straw hole through the top for safety reasons. "Disney" imprinted in the mold on the bottom.
