Sailor Rum Barrel

Older rum barrel with a sailor, who acts as the mug's handle. Barrel is brown, black and white on outside, white inside, sailor is nicely painted. Marked "Trader Dick's Fine Old XXX Rum" on side of barrel. This was not used at Trader Dick's in Sparks, Nevada, but rather was a promotional item for a brand of rum in Australia.

This rum barrel was created for Steve Crane and Associates, and was used at their locations, including the Luau in Beverly Hills and the Kon Tiki chain of restaurants. It is upright, brown with black bands, and has "Steve's Rum Barrel" on the front in white.

Don the Beachcomber Rum Barrel - Brown - by Franciscan Pottery

This brown rum barrel was produced by Franciscan Pottery (which changed its name in 1962, so the barrel must have been produced prior to this). "Don the Beachcomber" and "Rum Barrel" are in recessed letters on the front. Franciscan Pottery stamp on bottom.
This is likely the earliest version of the Don the Beachcomber rum barrel, used as early as the 1940s. The early version of the Franciscan Pottery stamp on bottom and photos of Don, himself, holding a dark glossy brown rum barrel support this.
Genghis Khan Mug Brown

This hefty mug is a depiction of Genghis Khan. It is a large man's head with the hair pulled back into a ponytail handle at the back. The mug is double-walled with room underneath for putting a piece of dry ice to get a fog breathing effect through the holes on each side of the mouth. Genghis Khan was the founder and Great Khan (emperor) of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his death. He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of northeast Asia. After founding the Mongol Empire and being proclaimed "Genghis Khan", he started the Mongol invasions that would result in the conquest of most of Eurasia. This version of the mug has bloodshot eyes, brownish-red hair and a beard. It also comes in a black-haired version and an all-white version.
