Fortune Teller Mug - One-Off by Biggs Tiki

This is a mug shaped like a fortune teller machine, often associated with the "Zoltar" brand as featured in the film, Big (1988), with Tom Hanks. This machine is still being produced today. Biggs Tiki made several glaze color variations of this design, but this is a one-off version which has a differently colored interior. Mug is square shaped and features a male fortune teller with turban on front, drapes on sides and a skull version of the teller with turban on reverse which mirrors the front image.

This is a one-of-a-kind hand-built mug as proof of concept by Andrew Cooke to drum up interest for a hoped for small run of 100 or so mugs for Trader Vic's London. Inspired by the classic Waren Zevon 70's hit song, "Werewolves of London". It portrays the werewolf from the song with a Hawaiian shirt, pina colada, and perfect hair.
Trader Vic's Tepco Platter

This white platter featuring a scene of kanes and wahines similar to those found on the Trader Vic's menus was manufactured by Tepco for Trader Vic's. It has a floral border. There is also a matching plate that was made by Vernon Kilns. It is possible that both companies made other pieces using this same pattern.

Other editions of the four Universal Monsters were released shortly after. Designed by Doug P’Gosh and sculpted by Matthew Black. The first edition variant of The Wolfman was glazed in dark matte brown. The third edition was a light gray variant called the "Silver Screen" edition. There was also a fourth edition in a lighter gloss brown done for the Alamo Draft House Theater.

Other editions of the four Universal Monsters were released shortly after. Designed by Doug P’Gosh and sculpted by Matthew Black. This first edition is in "Curtain Call Crimson" glaze. There is another Phantom mug variant in "Crescendo" glaze (black and red -- what some might call "Dark Cherry").

This white teapot was manufactured for Ren Clark's Polynesian Village. It features a tapa pattern around the rim as well as their signature tiki which was carved by Milan Guanko. This pattern is part of a larger dinner service set from the original restaurant.

There is also a 3-D variant of the Creature mug with a base blue glaze and a red wipe finish to mimic the effect of the blue and red lenses on 3-D glasses.

He and his Tahitian bride, Nui, also lived and embraced the Polynesian lifestyle. He performed all over the world with his Polynesian floor show troop 'The Regal Tahitians' from the late 1950’s thru the late 1960’s entertaining our armed forces in USO shows in the hey day of Tiki Culture! Today our shop, located in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, celebrates his legacy.
