Tiki Mugs
5-O Tiki Mug - by MiniTikiMeow
in 5 collections
This mug is based on an early Coco Joe's resin statue that made appearances in the original Hawaii 5-O television series (1968-1980). It is a Ku tiki with upturned nostrils and figure-eight mouth, eyes obscured by two sets of heavy brow ridges accented by rows of triangles. The mugs are glazed in a golden brown resembling the Coco Joe's piece, but interiors are glazed in a range of different colors (red, white, green). Sold through events or direct messaging through Carol Gravem's (MiniTikiMeow's) Instagram account.

Hawaiian Petroglyph Fog Cutter Drum Mug - Brown & Yellow - by HB Things Hawaii
in 1 collection
This is a fog cutter shaped mug with a Hawaiian drum look to it that is encircled with Hawaiian petroglyph images. It is also marked "HB Things Hawaii" on the bottom. Polynesian Pottery created a version as well with their marking of the double P. It’s likely that Adele Davis (who sold PP to Daga), had extra molds (so she could pour more than one at a time) and since she continued to make mugs and teach it's also likely that HB Things Hawaii obtained one of the molds as well. The Polynesian Pottery version of the mug is pictured on the cover of Waikiki Tiki by Phillip S. Roberts.

It’s likely that Adele Davis (who sold PP to Daga), had extra molds (so she could pour more than one at a time) and since she continued to make mugs and teach it's also likely that HB Things Hawaii obtained one of the molds as well -- since they produced an identical mug with different glazing and their own marking on the bottom. in 12 collections
This is a mug shaped like a turquoise baboon wearing a black fez with red tassel. Small hole in mouth for a burning taper for baboon to "smoke".
From House of Tabu's Facebook page:
"Of the sacred vessels of libation long thought lost to the sands of time, was the most coveted chalice of the of the highest degree - depicting none other than our official spirit animal - that ne’r-do-well, The Smoking Baboon. Whilst on a new dig at Temple grounds and despite the blistering heat, the anticipation of hunt soon drove the tireless efforts of our on-site excavation crew. Barely containing our excitement, we thought 'could this truly be it? Is this the day?' As we opened yet another catacomb, we uncovered what will hopefully be the first of a treasure trove Baboons! As we slowly scour through the ancient Temples of the the Order of the Golden Fez, we are discovering small stashes of this rare and elusive piece. Standing at approximately 7” tall and holding 15 ounces of your drink of choice, The Smoking Baboon is glazed in an Egyptian turquoise featuring a black fez and red accents."
This is the first ceramic mug produced entirely in-house by House of Tabu using their own kiln.
There is also a full-color glazed version.
Popo's Short Snorter - Brown - by Adele Davis of Sunset Shore Studio for Popo's Coffee Shop in Honolulu
in 0 collections
This coconut shaped brown mug is covered in Hawaiian petroglyph figures and says "Short Snorter" on the front and "SSS Popo's Honolulu" on the bottom. Popo's was a coffee shop at the Nimitz Plaza near the Honolulu International Airport, probably adjacent to the Popo's Mexican Restaurant that was nearby and also owned by the Spencecliff Corporation. The Spencecliff group also owned the Tahitian Lanai and the Lahaina Broiler and Prince Kuhio's. Popo's Coffee Shop also had a "Short Snorter Bar" inside. Originally a "Short Snorter" was a memento from World War II or earlier among flight crews where they would all sign a banknote with each others signatures and carry it around as a good luck charm. A "snort" is also slang for a mixed drink or shot. So a "short snorter" in this case was looked at as a small but stiff drink to have before taking a flight -- very appropriate for an airport coffee shop. Sunset Shore Studio pieces are rare and Adele Davis later sold her business which later went by Polynesian Pottery and Daga.
