The Return of Kū - Driftwood Edition - by Tiki Diablo - for UnderTow
aka The Return of Kū - Brown Edition - by Tiki Diablo - for UnderTow in 1 collection
From UnderTow/Tiki Diablo:
"A traditional Polynesian pop Ku style tiki that was pulled from the depths of the ocean, encrusted with barnacles and sea life. Classic Tiki Diablo style. Stoneware, made in America."
Additionally from UnderTow:
"These are not the original design or numbered. The sculpt has been reworked. The original collectors run of the Kū in Driftwood [brown] released on 12/21/2016 through an internet sign-up (20 sold/reserved per day with pick up at bar) with the remainder put up for sale starting in January 5, 2017 at the bar. 150 mugs were made and all sold out by the end of January 5th after a single day of sales. The Kū in Scrimshaw [beige] released during the Art of Tiki event during Arizona Cocktail Week two months later in March 2017. 150 mugs were made and all but 30 sold at the ticketed event with the rest selling out within an hour of opening the following business day."
You can tell these apart from the earlier edition by noting the barnacles on the belly, scalloped chisel marks vertically down edge of the headdress, the "UT" initials on the reverse, and that the bottom has "Tiki Diablo" in large lettering whereas the original version had "UnderTow" on a plaque on the bottom along with number and "Tiki Diablo" in small lettering.
As with the originals from 2016 - 2017, this design was made in either Scrimshaw (beige) or Driftwood (brown).
Made by Tropical Cocktail Mugs, a recent company division/internal branding of Tiki Diablo's more mass produced ceramics.

Scoop Necked Marquesan Tiki Mug - by Woody Miller
in 1 collection
From Woody Miller:
"Spending some time in the Marquesas you see tikis everywhere, stone and wood carvings decorating everything from driveways, to cemeteries, buildings, parks and even just dotted along the roadside. This Marquesan inspired sculpt was started in between projects, as a way to work out some fun ideas. Featuring a slanted head and big neck scoop, this boi is nice to hold. I wanted to use different techniques, so I made a special tattoo for the back, applied to each mug individually and glazed on. For now they will be glazed in the wood brown with different inside colors."
Released at Arizona Tiki Oasis (April 24th-27th, 2025).
