The Other - by Big Toe - Embellished by Weena Bee
aka Maori Frankenstein - Embellished by Weena Bee in 0 collections
This mug was based on Big Toe's (Tom Laura's) painting, The Other. It is a re-imagining or "What If?" that considers the end of Mary Shelly's classic story of Frankenstein's Monster and what might have happened if instead of going to the North Pole at the end he had hopped a ship to the South Seas instead and found more inclusion among native islanders.
The mug is a depiction of the Monster similar to Universal's classic flat head version with bolts in the neck, but he is dressed in Victorian finery with a bow tie and suit, and his face is covered in Maori moko tattoos.
This version is embellished by Weena Bee.
From Weena Bee: "I use apoxy sculpt, acrylic paint, and waterproof sealant on the exterior of this mug. The interior is fully glazed and food safe, however I recommend treating this as a work of art. "
Rocketeer Mug - Turquoise Green - Patina Variant - by MONDO
in 1 collection
From MONDO:
"One of the greatest cinematic superhero epics of the 20th century is reborn as a stratospheric tiki mug. Created as an independent comic book by cartoonist Dave Stevens, The Rocketeer is a fictional fighter for the ages, patrolling the skies of 1940s Hollywood to keep America safe from hoodlums and madmen. This tiki treatment of the golden-domed hero was created by artists Eric Siebenaler and Brian Oskins, and no two-fisted vigilante's drinkware collection is complete without it."
This mug features the Rocketeer in his signature helmet, with rocket pack, and double breasted leather pilot's jacket. The style sort of art deco and hovers someplace between a car hood ornament and an Oscar's award statue, but calls to mind the era of the comics very well (AND the film from 1991 starring Bill Campbell and Jennifer Connelly).
This mug design was also produced in a brown "Standard Variant" and a gray "Hood Ornament Variant".

Hello Kitty (Japanese: ハロー・キティ, Hepburn: Harō Kiti), also known by her full name Kitty White (キティ・ホワイト, Kiti Howaito), is a fictional character created by Yuko Shimizu, currently designed by Yuko Yamaguchi, and owned by the Japanese company Sanrio. Sanrio depicts Hello Kitty as a young female gijinka (anthropomorphization) of a Japanese Bobtail cat with a red bow and no mouth. According to her backstory, she is a perpetual third-grade student who lives outside of London.
Since the character's creation in 1974, the Hello Kitty media franchise has grown to include clothing, accessories, toys, games, books, manga, anime series, and music albums, along with other various product lines and media productions. By 2010, Sanrio had turned Hello Kitty into a global marketing phenomenon, worth $6 billion a year. By 2014, when Hello Kitty was 40 years old, she was worth about $8 billion a year. Hello Kitty has become one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
Hello Kitty is a staple of the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture. First marketed toward pre-teenage girls, Hello Kitty's image found commercial success among not only her original target audience but adolescent and adult consumers as well.
Some speculation, though not confirmed, that Hello Kitty was inspired by the Maneki Neko (Beckoning Cat).
