Island Girl Mug by Big Toe
in 9 collections
BigToe "Island Girl" hand-signed mug was styled after a BigToe painting called "Forbidden Island" that tells a narrative of an early visit to the Polynesian Islands. “Forbidden Island” was inspired by 2 black and white vintage photos (one of which, the topless wahine, was taken by Adolphe Sylvain of Tahiti from the 1960s) and a shot BigToe took at the Place Of Refuge on the Big Island of Hawaii. A beautiful wahine watches a wooden schooner drop anchor in an idyllic tropical lagoon with majestic volcanic mountains in the distance. The 2 menacing tikis watch over her and could portent troubled waters ahead for the visiting sailors. The mug was manufactured by Munktiki Imports. This is an open edition mug with subtle bas relief sculpting, that the artist has hand-signed. The mug measures about 8" tall by 2.75" wide, and holds about 15 fl oz.

The Reef Diver Duke Diving Helmet Mug With Clownfish - Super Dooper Limited Edition - by Eekum Bookum
in 0 collections
The Diver Duke Diving Helmet mug design was originally manufactured by Eekum Bookum for The Reef in Palm Springs. The mug is indeed shaped like a very realistic upside down diving helmet. It has an octopus, shells, and other undersea life encircling it. For this super dooper hand-painted version, the diver has come to explore the lost ruins of the ancient Mark V Navy helmet. Embellished with silver knife handle and custom 24k gold accents. The clown fish sent word to one of his buddies to check out this intruder... watch out for that octopus little dude...
*NOTE: Subsequently there have been many other editions of the Diver Duke Helmet Mug released, each with a different waiting creature on the rim (like the orange-glazed Gary fish) -- this includes a seahorse, a skeleton fish with red eyes, an orange and black striped clownfish, a blue/black/white striped fish, custom colored fish - including solid blue, and a blowfish.

Note the cracks and the crisp face carvings. Do not be dazzled by the genuine paua shell inlay in the eyes! Each of the 5 Chieftain's Mugs is entirely unique. Natural paua shell eyes have been inlaid with high strength jeweler's epoxy - hand wash only!"
Kon-Tiki Commemorative Mug - by THOR
aka Kon Tiki Raft Mug in 5 collections
In 1947, a journey across the great Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands took place on a rustic, hand crafted, raft led by Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl. With a raft named after the Inca god "Viracocha", the brave crew set out for an adventure of a lifetime! Heyerdahl believed that people from South America could have, by sail, reached Polynesia during pre-Colombian times. His aim in launching the "Kon-Tiki" expedition was meant to prove that. This mug version is sculpted by a different "THOR" you all may know (Tom Thordarson). Inspired by the real thing, down to flying fish and playful dolphins frolicking in the waves, this mug holds a generous 22 ounces of your favorite beverage. It stands a proud 10" from base of wave to the top of her mast, and is 6 1/2" in length, and 4 1/2" wide. Sails are water moisture resistant and rigging lines are water resistant, and wax coated. Ceramic glazing is hand applied by Tom and his family, at the THOR ceramics studio.
