Zombie Glass - Frosted White with Black Script - for Monte Proser's Beachcomber
in 0 collections
This is a frosted zombie glass marked for Monte Proser's Beachcomber.
Monte Proser was one of the first to lift Donn Beach's Don the Beachcomber concept, and he lifted the famous Zombie drink right along with it. Proser was largely responsible for introducing the Zombie to the east coast. He started with "Monte Proser's Zombie," a bar created for the New York World's Fair in 1939. Based on that success, he opened Monte Proser's Beachcomber at the end of that same year, December 26th, 1939, in a space above the Winter Garden Theatre in the Theater District north of Times Square (the same space would later hold Lanai, and then Hawaii Kai). Following this, several other locations sprang up, including Miami Beach, Florida, Boston, Massachusetts, Baltimore, Maryland and Providence, Rhode Island.

Max's Kona Kai Frigate Bird - Artist Proof

This mug is based on a vintage 10' tall carving of a Frigate Bird done by Jim Casey that originated in 1960 with the opening of the Kona Kai in Philadelphia. It sat above their entryway originally and was salvaged when the Kona Kai was demolished in 1985. Later, it was purchased for Max's along with several other pieces in the Jordan Reichek collection which were catalogued by Sven Tiki in his exhibition catalogue book, The Art of Tiki, in 2017.
There was a larger and ultra detailed Super Limited version limited to 25 pieces hand-painted by Max's in-house ceramics crew (Olivia, Elise, and Jerry "Bertiki " or "The Rainbow Professor"). There was also a less detailed regular limited edition of 200 pieces which are 40% smaller than the Super Limited version.
This is an Artist Proof (AP) of the regular limited edition pieces, same size as those in the edition of 200, but as artist proofs each one is unique in glaze color and details.
