Tiki Bars

Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada (Closed)
This bar was open from around 1965-1970. Later, it was re-named the Tiki Tai.
Hawaiian I Steak House - Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (Closed)
Named after the popular television show, Hawaiian Eye (1959-1963), this steakhouse with tropical decor and cocktails featured some impressive Milan Guanko tikis out front.
It was short-lived, however, from about 1963-1964.
Revival House - at Blue Sushi Saki Grill
Des Moines, Iowa, United States
Opened December 2nd, 2020.
The rapidly growing mini chain of Blue Sushis (there are 19 and counting open or coming soon across the U.S. as of 2023) now have “pocket bars” next door. Each has a different style, and Des Moines was lucky enough to draw the tiki card.
There is a nice selection of hanging lamps and the interior is nicely trimmed out in bamboo, natural materials, and palm leaf wallpaper. One end has a lava rock wall with the requisite pink neon sign that has sprung up in the age of Instagram to take the obligatory photos with.
They serve tiki cocktails in tiki mugs, although as of this time they do not appear to have original branded barware. The mugs used appear to be the top 10 wholesale mugs made in China (some of them rip-offs of Bosko's or Tiki Farm's mugs). However, the cocktails appear to be dialed in craft-cocktails using good ingredients, by all accounts.
Tikki Beach - at Paddy's Beach Club
Westerly, Rhode Island, United States
Opened in 1999.
Paddy's Beach Club is located right on the beach and is relatively quiet during the winter but explodes into action during Spring and Summer, becoming a Spring Break/Beach Festival destination for thousands of scantily clad young people who visit every Sunday while the season lasts.
The Tikki Bar is located directly opposite the DJ entertainment stage on the other side of the dance floor. This dance floor is flanked on the sides by cabana private areas that you can rent for your friends. There is also a large drinking and dining area behind the main building and beach access onto the main beach as well.
Often regarded as New England's premiere dayclub.
They do have at least a couple of large carved wooden tikis outside. But the Tiki theme is applied pretty lightly overall.
Their cocktails are not the refined Trader Vic's and Don the Beachcomber cocktails that send the taste buds of most Tiki Fans quivering. If you want a ton of blue drink in a fish bowl to get buzzed on, though, they have you covered!
The Volcano Room - at Pinky's Westside Grill - Huntersville
Huntersville, North Carolina, United States
The Volcano Room opened December 17th, 2022.
The build-out was completed by Tiki Rancher (Frank Simotics).
Pinky's started in Charlotte, North Carolina (November 2010) and then added this second Huntersville, North Carolina location afterwards (December 2013).
Pinky's has been profiled on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (May 2015).
Their food includes hamburgers, hot dogs, and Southern twists on fast food staples. Their cocktails are mostly original creations inspired by Tiki or Tropical classics.
Tropical Hut - 57th Street - Chicago
Chicago, Illinois, United States (Closed)
This pre-tiki location opened in 1941 on Fifty-Seventh Street near Kenwood Avenue (1320-24 1/2 E. 57th St.).
Urban renewal pushed the original restaurant out in 1966 and it moved into a pagoda-like building at Ninety-Second Street and Stony Island Avenue (9156 S. Stony Island Ave.). This second location lasted into the early '90s. The last incarnation of this second location was as Nipsey's, a southern food restaurant, which burned down on March 2nd, 2022.
RedFrog Tiki Bar - aboard the Mardi Gras Carnival Cruise Ship
Port Canaveral, Florida, United States
The new Carnival Cruise Line ship Mardi Gras set sail on Saturday, July 31, 2021, marking the first official passenger cruise from Port Canaveral since the pandemic began in 2020. The ship has a capacity of 6,500 passengers and 20 decks, making it the eighth largest cruise ship in the world. The Mardi Gras is also the first ship in North America powered entirely by liquefied natural gas.
Note, there was also a much smaller Mardi Gras ship launched in 1972... but this one dwarfs it in comparison.
The 2021 Mardi Gras specializes in Caribbean cruises. It is docked and leaves out of Port Canaveral, Florida, United States.
The RedFrog Tiki Bar is located on the 5th level Lido deck and is the first of 3 RedFrog Tiki Bars planned, with the Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee next in line.
Carnival Celebration's Red Frog Tiki Bar opened when the ship was completed on November 2, 2022.
These Red Frog Tiki Bars are distinct from the Red Frog Pubs or Red Frog Rum Bars on other ships in this line.
The Carnival Mardi Gras' bar is 2 stories tall and has both bar and dining table seating. They have extensive themed decoration including some Oceanic Arts style lights and some Oceanic Arts Papua New Guinea masks and other hangings.
The bar features a wide array of rums listed by region but the bar name reflects their line of beers which is served on tap. They do have unique branded tiki mugs and mai tai glasses available for sale as well as other merch.
The Hukilau - at The Captain's Inn
Long Beach, California, United States (Closed)
Opened circa 1957 and closed some time around 1975.
The Hukilau was located on the second deck of The Captain's Inn, on the South Shore of the Long Beach Marina.
Description of the location from the May 14th, 1961 edition of Southland Magazine:
"A WATERFALL shimmering under colorful lights . . . A broad, red-carpeted stairway, gently curved . . . Luxurious tropical furnishings. . . .
These are some of the sights which greet visitors to the new Hukilau Polynesian lounge at the Captain's Inn, 215 Marina Drive, on the south shore of the beautiful Long Beach Marina.
Located on the second floor of the greatly-enlarged Inn, the Hukilau lounge provides its guests with fascinating views of the yacht fleet, smooth blue waters and tall palms. Furnished with polished monkey pod wood tables, bamboo, nettings and other authentic tropical touches, the lounge offers delicious island appetizers, such as rumaki, pua pua, Hong Kong won ton, Hawaiian barbecued ribs and fried sui gow. The beverages, prepared by Popo, an award-winning Polynesian mixologist, include such exotic creations as Tahitian Tiki Punch, Scorpion Bowl, Montego, Flaming Virgin, Yacht Club Special, Tiger Shark and Mai Tai. They are served in bowls, cups, glasses or even statuary designed to accentuate the charms of each.
HOST GEORGE Heinrich and his large staff also supervise the activities of five other dining rooms and lounges, which brings the total seating capacity of the Inn to 325. Most of these have picture windows overlooking the yacht anchorage. The rooms include the Commodore's Lounge, where Adrian is featured at the piano bar, the Corinthian Room, Marine Room, Captain's Bar and Captain's Grill.
The Hukilau lounge, open from 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, is reserved Mondays and Tuesdays for special parties (to 80 persons.)"
After 1975, the building was a Charthouse restaurant for many years prior to it becoming the Crab Pot Restaurant (current business as of 2022).
Tiki Bar - at Guy Fieri's Downtown Flavortown - Pigeon Forge
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, United States
Opened Tuesday, March 8th, 2022.
Famous chef and restaurateur Guy Fieri’s “Downtown Flavortown” restaurant is located on The Mountain Mile in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
The 43,000 square-foot entertainment destination centers around a 300-plus seat restaurant, showcasing Fieri fusion cuisine like his bacon mac ’n’ cheeseburger and Trash Can Nachos.
It has a 14-lane duckpin bowling alley, 10,000 square-foot arcade, full-service tropical Tiki bar, and a photo opportunity with a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro similar to the one featured on Fieri’s hit show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”
The bar itself is set up as a thatched rectangular island with bar stool seating on all 4 sides. There are also 5 thatched roof booths opposite and plenty of other open seating throughout.
The signs on the thatched roof of the main bar just say "Tiki Bar" and have a couple of small tiki masks and a third larger tiki that is recognizable to most tikiphiles as the mascot tiki from Forbidden Island in Alameda, CA (originally designed by Tiki Diablo).
A "Caliente Margarita", "Tattooed Mojito" and "Guy’s Famous BBQ Bloody Mary" are on the craft cocktail menu but you can also get traditional tiki cocktails like the 1944 Mai Tai, Jet Pilot, and Rum Barrel.
Tiki Farm manufactured 4 unique mugs for the bar to start out with, modeled after carved tiki poles in the restaurant. These are for sale on premises for $45 each.

Mahiki - Kensington High Street - London
London, United Kingdom (Closed)
In 2017, Mahiki took over this second London location on Kensington High Street location from alpine cabin-themed club Bodo’s Schloss, which is situated beneath the Royal Garden Hotel and just a few hundred meters from Kensington Palace. Rumours of a tunnel connecting the palace to the club for VIP royal access have existed for as long as the site has been a club. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke of Sussex, Rihanna and Harry Styles have all partied here.
The location is a 350-capacity, 6,000 square foot space and was detailed and designed for the Mahiki by CT Creative Limited, a sister company of CheekyTiki. One detail that this Mahiki had in abundance were oriental jade glazed temple tile divides. These were molded by CheekyTiki and are still for sale through their now re-branded company, Little Grass Shack.

In October of 2019, it was announced that Mahiki was closing and would be replaced by Bloom Nightclub.
In addition to the original London location (now closed) and the Kensington location (now closed), the Mahiki franchise has spread to several other venues. Mahiki Clubs have opened in Dubai, Arab Emirates (now closed), Marbella, Spain (Mahiki Beach/closed in 2021), in the Forte Village Resort in Sardinia (now closed), and Mahiki Manchester (opened in 2017 in collaboration with Gary Neville's company GG Hospitality Management Ltd., closed in 2018, then reopened in 2019, and closed once again in 2020). There was also a Mahiki club in Gothenburg, Sweden (closed).
