Tiki Bars
Smorgy's - Burwood East
Burwood East, Victoria, Australia (Closed)
Created by Eric Schwaiger, Smorgy's was a chain that was started in the mid 1980s, expanded in the 1990s with more elaborate build-outs, and closed in the early 2000s. The food was all-you-can-eat buffet style and the decor featured some animatronics and many had Disney-esque style volcano entrances or waterfalls surrounded by jungle style shrubbery.
Momilani's
Dana Point, California, United States (Closed)
Momilani's was a Hawaiian goods store that carried some tiki items. The same space had previously been a similar store known as Hot Lava.
Momilani's was open at least as early as February of 2010 and closed in September 2013.
Lee's Hawaiian Islander - Clifton
Clifton, New Jersey, United States (Closed)
Opened in 1974. Lee's "temporarily closed" due to a fire, and has been since 2003.
This location is now home to a CVS pharmacy.
There is another Lee's Hawaiian Islander location in Lyndhurst, which is still open.
Ciral's House of Tiki
Chicago, Illinois, United States (Closed)
Opened in 1962 and closed in 2000.
This was actually the second location for Ciral's House of Tiki, and the first location was a few blocks north and lasted for about 8 years.
The exterior had a large neon sign flanked by several electric beer signs and had a sort of diner look to the casual observer.
This bar was a big draw for locals and for both University of Chicago students and professors alike.
The interior featured bamboo trim and curtains, hanging plants, pufferfish lamps, and a vintage Budweiser sign with circling Clydesdales.
There was a jukebox filled with 78 rpm albums, especially classic soul and R&B.
The menu featured classic rum-based tiki cocktails and if anyone ever ordered tequila they were met with a lecture by the owner on the dangers of tequila as a poisonous liquor.
Bottled beer was also available.
Their food menu is remembered for its fried fish or chicken and for its baby back ribs.
This bar was featured in the Gene Hackman film, The Package (1989) -- starting at the 50:40 minute mark.

Ocean's 11
Austin, Texas, United States (Closed)
This tiki bar opened to much fanfare in 2001, but it reportedly closed for "renovations" in November of 2002. In reality, it shut down after running into some governmental crankiness over unpaid back taxes.
Their theme was Rat Pack meets Tiki. They also had a number of early Tiki Farm mugs branded with their location.
In 2006, the space finally reopened as Headhunters, a punk dive bar renowned as a live music venue.
Headhunters fell on hard times and was cleaned up and re-branded in 2012 as Metal and Lace: Steampunk Lounge by Host Jon Taffer of the Bar Rescue television show.
However, the changes didn't stick and the bar went back to its old name and ways and closed in 2014.
Burt's Tiki Lounge - Albuquerque
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States (Closed)
Opened in 1999 at this smaller original location.
This was a popular bar with live music and no cover. Burt's had lots of kitschy decor, but not a lot of actual tikis.
In 2016, Burt's decided to trade this original Gold Avenue location for 515 Central NW as part of a significant expansion project. Burt’s nearly tripled in size to accommodate as many as 600-700 people for its live music shows.
The theming was kept the same but it was more sparsely decorated. After the move, the bar lost momentum and eventually closed in 2018.
There does not appear to be any connection between this Burt's Tiki Lounge and the Burt's Tiki Lounge in Salt Lake City.
Albert's Tiki Village - Sacramento
Sacramento, California, United States (Closed)
This location served Chinese & Polynesian cuisine and cocktails and is notable for the Witco God of Fortune that graced its menu as well as the custom Witco tikis at the location itself.
Coco's On The Canal
Kemah, Texas, United States
Opened in early 2022.
This bar is known for its live performances, with regular music, karaoke, and burlesque showcases held in a stage area.
The interior decor includes a large tiki head built into the back bar as well as glass fish floats suspended from the ceiling and lots of artificial greenery.
They also have a large back deck with an excellent canal view as one would guess from the name.
Trader's Tiki Bar - Altrincham
United Kingdom
Opened in 2015 by Cheshire-based brothers, Anthony and Edward Prophet, in the bustling Goose Green area of Altrincham Town Centre. This venture follows the launch of the pair’s Waikiki Tiki bar in Chester eight months before (which later closed @2017-2018).
Trader's Tiki Bar has an outside patio and a more recently built upstairs area as well.
