Tiki Bars
Tiki Beach Dahme
Dahme, Germany
A tiki-style beach bar in the north of Germany.
After a visit in Florida, Danny, his wife and his mum opened up this little beach bar in 2021. They prefer a brightly-colored tiki style. They offer good cocktails and a lot of snacks. All Tiki enthusiasts are welcome and they love to get information/ feedback from the Tiki community.
Bootlegger Tiki
Palm Springs, California, United States
Bootlegger Tiki opened in 2014, in the same spot that decades prior had housed the Palm Springs location of Don the Beachcomber. The owners also operate Ernest Coffee, right nextdoor. The walls and ceiling are lined with lauhala mats and Asian-motif graphic wallpaper, framed by bamboo. A creative slate of craft-inspired tiki cocktails are offered. There is a small covered outdoor patio.
Tiki Haven
San Francisco, California, United States
Opened in 2011.
Tiki Haven is a tiki bar in the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. The decor is beachy-tiki with mainly mass-market tikis and lauhala matting, and there are about a half-dozen glaring video screens throughout the space.
They do serve drinks in tiki mugs and have a small menu of classics and signature cocktails.
Tiki Limbo
Santa Elena, Ecuador
Tiki Limbo is a small hotel/hostel, restaurant and surf shop catering to the casual, backpacking tourists who come through this small coastal town. It was created in 2003 by the husband and wife team of Fernanda Solis (from Argentina) and Lorenzo Torre (from Spain). The couple supervised the full construction of the thatch-covered, '50s Americana, Polynesian Pop-inspired building. Every room of the entire building is thoroughly decorated in thatch, bamboo, and other tropical details and there are plenty of tikis.
The hotel has 11 rooms in both group and private configurations. The restaurant specializes in vegetarian fare, as well as seafood. The shop sells surf clothes and accessories, and offers surf rentals as well.
Tiki Town Adventure Golf
San Diego, California, United States
Tiki Town Adventure Golf is a themed, 18-hole mini golf course. It opened in 2013 in Belmont Park, an amusement park in the Mission Beach neighborhood of San Diego. The course is charming and appropriately cartoonish, with tikis and Polynesian Pop elements found everywhere. A large volcano sits by the entrance, there are thatched structures with A-frames, and some of the holes have animatronic features. The course runs both indoors and outdoors.
There is a nearby Dole Whip stand in Belmont Park, under the Sky Ropes Adventure.
Kon-Tiki - Portland
Portland, Oregon, United States (Closed)
Opened September 26th, 1959.
This restaurant was part of the Kon-Tiki chain owned by Steve Crane. It was in the Sheraton-Motor Inn, later called the Sheraton-Portland, in Lloyd Center, and featured three waterfalls. The site is now a Doubletree Hotel.
Closed in 1980 or 1981.
Some of the tikis from the Kon-Tiki wound up at the Jasmine Tree restaurant, including three large cannibal tikis. When the Jasmine Tree closed in late 2006, the tikis and other decor headed to another tiki bar in the area, Thatch, which later became Hale Pele.
Toucans Tiki Lounge
Palm Springs, California, United States
Toucans opened in 2002, and is a tiki bar nightclub catering to Palm Springs' large gay population. The earlier theming was more tropical-light, but over the years the tiki angle has intensified, and now it is full of beautiful vintage lamps, hut structures, bamboo, thatch, and large tikis. Toucans offers fairly standard nightclub drink fare, but they do have a Mai Tai. Toucans' specialty is drag shows.
Wharf Fishhouse & Tiki Bar
Newport, Rhode Island, United States
Opened summer of 2023 and located in downtown Newport, RI, this two-level bar and restaurant is tucked away in-between shops and bars on the side of a building on Bowen’s Wharf.
The tiki decor is sparse but there are fish floats, walls covered with lauhala matting, fish netting on ceilings, and tropical plants throughout. The white ceilings and beige walls along with wide plate-glass windows run contrary to the usual dark and cloistered tiki bar environment. Neither are there the layers of tiki mementos and ephemera one might find at a Trader Vic's or other classic establishment, but Wharf Fishhouse is new and has room to add more if they wish.
Their selection of custom tiki drinks are served in various tiki mugs, and they have several Polynesian inspired dishes, with a variety of skewers, sliders, rangoons, wings, ribs, etc.. Additionally, they offer standard local New England fare.
From Wharf Fishhouse & Tiki Bar:
“POLYNESIAN INSPIRED SMALL PLATES, NEW ENGLAND CLASSICS AND TIKI BAR. RIGHT IN THE HEART OF BOWEN’S WHARF.”
Crow's Nest
Oxnard, California, United States (Closed)
This 1940s Pre-Tiki tropical bar was built inside of a WWII quonset hut with bamboo and thatch. Next to it was the Oxnard Airport where a military training squadron was and Howard Hughes kept some aircraft there.

Paso Robles, California, United States
Soft opening on February 6th, 2022. Opened to general public on February 16th, 2022.

Tiki Iniki - Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia, United States (Closed)
This Tiki Iniki was a second location in Atlanta's Virginia-Highland neighborhood; a sister to the original Tiki Iniki location on Kauai. Unlike the Kauai location, this one did not have any ownership or involvement by Todd and Michele Rundgren, instead being operated by Atlanta's Supper Club Group under a license agreement. One of the partners in Supper Club Group, Bill Chapman, was an investor in the original Tiki Iniki. It opened in November 2018 and closed in September 2019, a relatively short-lived endeavor, and was re-opened as Madhouse Lounge. Madhouse appeared to still be using much of the same decor and menu items, however...until it closed, in turn, around 2020. In 2021, this space was occupied by Sea Salt Seafood Lounge, which is still running as of 2023.
Tiki Cocktail Lounge
Modesto, California, United States
The Tiki Cocktail Lounge is situated essentially in the parking lot for the Tropics Motel (now re-named Tiki Lodge), the Modesto entry in the midcentury Kimes Tropics Motels chain. The Tiki Cocktail Lounge has fared a bit better than the barely-operational motel--and while it's more of a beer joint (despite its full bar), it has managed to retain some of its tiki charm.
They did a remodel in recent years and removed the bamboo and thatched roofed booths inside. Probably to open the space up -- it's often packed-out for dancing.
There still appears to be some bamboo behind the back bar, a sometimes-lit pit fireplace and a small outdoor patio with a smattering of tikis.
The old velvet paintings may or may not have made it through the remodel and there was talk of a tiki mural in back...
In recent years, the Tiki Lounge has become a LGBTQ focused site, and they state on their Facebook page that: "We feature an open lifestyle environment where people of all sexualities and genders can feel free to get together, have a few good cocktails and have a great time. Gay, Straight, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered all are welcomed at the Tiki!"
The Tiki Lounge is just down the road from Minnie's Restaurant (not walking distance, unfortunately).
